Castello di Ama

Vigneto Bellavista Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2011

Slightly less deep appearance, hints of garnet and a more terracotta rim . More advanced obviously with dried herbal hints , black tea , cedar , menthol, less fruits but some earthy dried cherry , cassis notes too. On the palate this shows more dried fruit character , dried cherry, dried herbs , black tea, cedar . Fresh acidity and fine tannins , saline and mineral on the palate . Good length and intensity, this is showing well at the moment . Will continue to give pleasure at this level over the next 5 -8 years — 13 days ago

Punta Crena

Vigneto Isasco Riviera Ligure di Ponente Rossese 2023

Delightfully rustic. Wild strawberry, cranberry, red cherry, and sage. Light to medium bodied. Tannins are silky smooth. Would pair beautifully with grilled fish, roast poultry, or a rustic pizza. — 3 months ago

Azienda Agricola Valle Reale

Vigneto di Popoli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2016

Fresh, enticing, elegant.
Nose with earthy, musky raspberries, mulberries, a touch of damson plum, and a light flowery whiff
On the palate this is silky smooth. Zero rusticity, chewy tannins or sharp acidity - so often found in Montepulciano.
This has flow, energy, good depth, nice minerality underneath the fruit. And all this with 12% alc.
This is not at all what I expected! What a delight, what a nice surprise!
Very elegant, smooth, delicious.
A brilliant example the Montepulciano can deliver great wine!
Only but - you get 2 bottles of Ziereisen’s Syrah for one of this - and blind I would not be able to tell the difference.

Romano Dal Forno

Vigneto Monte Lodoletta Valpolicella Superiore Corvina Blend 2013

Presented double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and no obvious signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of ripe and some dried fruits: bramble berries, slightly stewed black cherry, dried herbs, stony earth, baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. The alcohol is high.

Initial conclusions: this could be a Grenache-based blend, Corvina-based blend or Sangiovese-based blend from France or Italy. I felt the combination of slightly stewed cherry and spices ruled out what I would want from a Sangiovese blend. Which, left me to decide between Southern Rhône or Valpolicella. I liked this wine…the oak treatment was interesting. I was getting a French barrique. Hmmm…

So, for my final conclusion: I’m calling this a Grenache-based blend, from France, from Southern Rhône, from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, 2017, from a more modern leaning producer using a good portion of barrique. I’ll be damned! I don’t hate my call but I gotta get better at distinguishing these wines from Southern Rhône. I probably just need to drink more of both, lol. Tasty stuff! Drink now through 2039.

Fattoria Selvapiana

Vigneto Bucerchiale Riserva Chianti Rùfina Sangiovese 2019

This is a tasty, elegant Chianti where the savory elements and fruit have equal billing. On the nose, aromas of earthy spice, dark cherry, leather, and a slight hint of dried herbs. The palate has plums, dark cherries, and dried fruit with a beautiful underlying layer of leather, earth, clove, and orange zest. The persistent finish leaves a lovely taste of dried fruit and spice on the palate. Some slight hints of grilled meat come through in the finish as well. So tasty. Soft on the palate, although tannins are slightly drying in the finish. Notes are based on pour from bottle on 2nd day, as 1st day my taste buds were a bit off due to recovering from a cold. Medium bodied, medium+ acidity. Thanks to @Tom Casagrande for making me aware of the Rufina subzone. — a month ago

Tommaso Bussola

Vigneto Alto Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend

This wine is so hard to rate. You either love or hate it. It’s almost a dessert wine with the sweetness it displays right from the bottle.

Early on, it had some depth and tannin to balance the sweetness and provide for some cherry and good fruit.

As it decanted and sat, it seemed to get sweeter as tannins faded.

This wine needed strong cheese to really balance it.

It was the favorite for some but then avoided by others. You have to really enjoy the sweetness without sugar.

Vigneto du Lot Soave Classico Garganega 2018

Top-notch Soave, complex and flavorful. This is a rich and bold white wine, so it will not be good for those looking for an unobtrusive Soave. Intense white fruit flavors, filled with cream and multiple fruits. Distinct lemon flavors throughout. — 4 years ago
