Lean and precise. Lemon peel and white floral nose. Green & yellow apple, bitter nectarine. Steely flinty mineral undercurrent throughout. Resemblance to a Chablis but the fruit profile of pear/lemon has a little more ripe and richness to it. Well made and versatile. Maybe a hint of vanilla after opening up but not much if any new oak — 3 years ago
Blueberry and intense floral aromatics. Sous Bois and slight undercurrent of iron and game. I put this in burgundy on blinding - the Syrah was polished. Very well crafted. — 5 years ago
With a flavor and complexity equivalent to any French grand cru, this is a fantastic Chardonnay. The nose is slightly funky with a mineral driven undercurrent and notes of star fruit, asian pear, apricot and wet rocks, but the flavor is BOLD, with a front of fruit forward acidity, with a creamy mid-palate and a lingering, slightly mineral finish. Everything that comes out of the Michael Mara Vineyard is spectacular, and this is not exception. Like liquid gold! — 5 years ago
It is a beast of a wine and yet it is approachable. Tannic but sweet tannins, full bodied, black fruits, mineral with a super long finish. The leather, gamey, Forrest floor undercurrent is starting to develop but will need another 5 years. A hedonistic bomb. Will give you pleasure for another 10 to 15 years easy. — 6 years ago
New World Chard with Old World / cool climate character. Pale yellow, crisp, notes of lemon curd, tropical fruit. Smooth, creamy texture with mineral undercurrent that carries through the finish. 2014, still fresh/youthful. 13.1% ABV. — 6 years ago
I’m not the best at predicting how wine ages, but this strikes me as a wine with a long thrilling life ahead of it. Aggressive tannins shape an undercurrent of dark plum and wild dark berry fruit. Heavy chalky notes. Tightly wound with great potential energy underneath dryingtannins that produce pith-like flavors (blood orange pith?). Not close to ready yet — 7 years ago
Initially tight, reductive with earthy, charcuterie aromas. After over a day in the wine fridge, the fruit awakens, cassis, plum, with the undercurrent of cured meat, vanilla & pepper. Leaner style on the palate, medium plus body, sturdy acidity, fine but firm tannins coasting into a long finish. Enjoyable if still young #pomerol . — 10 months ago
This wine from the Canary Islands is bright asks fresh with crisp acidity and plenty of green apple, lemon, wet stone and flint. It also has a rich undercurrent of yellow plum, white peach and fennel and a bit of salinity on the finish. Made for seafood, and Very nice with a pesto and goat cheese pizza — 3 years ago
Quite aromatically expressive once given a 30+ min decant, after which aromas of pomegranate, violet & lavender come through along with an earthy undercurrent. The palate is supremely well balanced with flavors of blueberries, red currants, with a bite of black pepper on the finish. Overall a lovely cru Beaujolais, which keeps luring you back for one more sip. It proved an excellent, albeit untraditional, pairing with jalapeño & queso fresco turkey burgers! 2012. Excellent Cabernet-based Super Tuscan, drinking perfectly now (in store bin for 3-4 years!). Starts out with reticent black and blue fruits (and pomegranate?) with a strong undercurrent of iron/minerals. After three hours the tannins smooth out to reveal just the right balance of fruit, leather, tar and earth. Rich and complex, tastes like a high-quality Bordeaux by later evening. One of the best wines I’ve had all year and a steal at $45 at JW. — 5 years ago
I’ve been holding onto this bottle for a while now, and it was already over a decade old when I bought it. It’s drinking pretty well right now. It’s a little more delicate and subtle than Brunello in its youth. Not necessarily “old” smelling, but you can certainly tell this bottle is getting on in years. Leather and tobacco dominate the nose with a faint undercurrent of red fruit. Vibrant and acidic on the palate with finer tannins that became more prevalent over time. You get hit with a burst of fruit up front that finishes dry and peppery. Decanted about an hour before dinner, and drunk over the course of an hour or so, and it was fun to see how it evolved. — 6 years ago

High toned raspberry, black cherry and wild berry fruit, leather, sandalwood, dark rose, a little bit of a sanguine note, tarragon black tea, and dominant undercurrent of musk and earth framing it all. Seems to have that halfway chambolle to Gevrey thing. Not particularly long but lots of interest.
Good big body and acidity but still with very aggressive tannins. Really only came Into its own day 2. A broad shouldered wine, and a definite hold m — 7 years ago
2019 vintage. Picked up at Trader Joe’s-La Mesa, CA. $14.99. Popped and poured without any down time. This came out swinging. Great, expressive nose of the usuals-like tar, rose petals and slightly tart cherry-with a brushy, decaying leaves undercurrent. Medium body. Lacking the unbridled power of the top Barolo efforts on the back end but it was still a 25+ seconds finish with a dusting of cracked black pepper regardless. Expected a lot less and received much more. Very pleasant balance of fruit and tannins currently without any particular component/moment stealing the show. Not to be dismissed, intro and mid-palates amply represented. Will go back this week for more. 14% ABV. 1.23.24. — 2 years ago

Wow. I wasnt expecting this. Amazing “sticky”. Ripe honey-d tropical fruits with a delicious undercurrent of dried apricot. — 4 years ago
n: black cherry, plum, a little touch of mint (just a leaf or two)
P: +mixed dark berries, moist tobacco, and a little cocoa. Rich but still has an undercurrent if freshness.
Tannins are silky, fruit still quite fresh. In a good place right now.
Excellent w Birria. — 5 years ago
The nose is beautiful on this wine - perfumed blackberry, strawberry and plum. It has some noticeable sweet oak spice with a good whiff of vanilla. The palate brings flavors of red fruit with a slightly tart edge to it and a very good acidity that is lip-smacking. There is a savory undercurrent that I find irresistible. The finish lingers quite a while. — 5 years ago
Hmmmm...dried prunes, touch of currant and ripe red berries with a sublime undercurrent of grassy earth and forest-y shit. Ate some Hokkaido uni with it. Would eat a whole goddamn tray with a bottle....wait sounds like my weekend plan! — 6 years ago
A consistent favorite with initial bright raspberries then undercurrent of orange and spice — 7 years ago
A deep core of dark fruit takes center stage on this bottle - blueberry and blackberry and something like those but more wild and atypical, and fresh fruit but even some candies fruit notes. Herbaceous notes like bay leaf, oregano and tarragon and also exotic woods like sandalwood. Slight undercurrent of exotic spices m. Less Smokey and meaty notes than the last bottle I opened. This feels much more transparent, primary and...Burgundian?
Still with gray acidity and big drying tannins, but opening up. Excited to see it in a few years! — 7 years ago

This wine pours up with a salmon pink color. The white bubbles disappear rather quickly. Aromas of ripe strawberry explode from the nose, mixing with a bit of lemon peel. The palate shows a bushel of red fruit along with a strong minerality and a citrus undercurrent. The acidity is lively and refreshing. Big time drinkability joins extreme food friendliness in this bubbly. — 5 months ago
