Traditional White Wine

Jacques Selosse

Initial Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Well, here we are. Selosse Initial. What is there really to say? Is it good? Is it great? Is it delicious? Does it live up to the hype? Did it change my life?

Yes.

A beautiful golden hue in the glass with profuse perlage. There’s no need for traditional notes here, we already know. Wonderfully electric, saline, and textured. Depth, personality, and romance.

Nothing I say here matters. Go get as many Selosse champagnes as you can. Then get a few more. And enjoy life.

A gorgeous nose. Soft sweet corn, brioche, confit lemon, limestone and a light saltiness. In a lovely place right now — 15 hours ago

Dom Pérignon

P2 Brut Champagne Blend 2004

#AgedWineTuesday

Deep gold in color.

Strong nose and full bodied with medium plus acidity and tiny bubbles.

Dry on the palate and complex.

Showing yellow apples, ripe citrus fruits, spices, sea salt, herbs, minerals, yeast, earth and light brioche.

Long finish with limes and light almonds.

This is a delicious 22 year old Champagne. Rich and fruit forward. Well balanced, complex and entertaining.

Drinking beautifully now, and much better after 90 minutes of airtime. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years, and better when not too cold.

Loved how the bubbles integrated with the wine. Vibrant and engaging.

Wine Spectator 97 points. Wine Advocate 95 points.

I've had this vintage a few times before, and it is very consistent.

A great sipping wine that also paired nicely with food.

A blend of 62% Pinot Noir and 38% Chardonnay. Aged for 15 years on its lees.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$550.

La Grande Dame Brut Champagne Blend 1990

Somm David T
9.5

I am seldom dumbfounded when it comes to wine. So, I appreciate it when that happens.

This 1990 La Grande Dame was amazing and so fresh. Full disclosure, I am not normally impressed by this producer and this cuvée. Unusual for a champagne of 35 yrs to be so fresh in my experience from inception. So much so, if poured blind many would call it N/V or a fairly recent vintage. The color was even palish straw. Mags were brought from their Champagne House.

Excellent with the dessert of the evening, “Lemon Meringue Pie Cookie.”

Enjoyed at the 2026 “From Cellar Event” Pebble Beach Food and Wine.

Butteaux Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2007

Soft and good secondary notes. Quite subtle. Delicate lemon and oyster shells. Calm and pretty. Slightly disappointed but changing a lot with air in the glass — 15 hours ago

Taittinger

Comtes de Champagne Grand Crus Brut Blanc de Blancs 2006

Medium lemon yellow fine , persistent perlage . Quite rich and ripe on the nose with some roasted nuts , lemon peel , some camomile , still quite restrained and a little closed. On the palate again quite full and rich , ripe lemon fruit , orange rind , roasted nuts and a creamy mouthfeel , certainly enough acidity to balance but on the richer side . Good length and lightly toasty finish . This is good now but will probably improve over the next few years and last well a further 5-10 . — 15 days ago

Cristal Brut Champagne 2012

Lemon yellow. Fine bubbles. Elegant aroma with something in the deep area. Creamy. Aged flavor. Changed a lot. Dried brioche came out later and quite impressive. Louis Roederer Cristal 12 @9750, wine plus - vic, 260510 — 12 days ago
