Now this is Pinot Noir the way it was meant to be! Floral, more subtle and less in your face like Meomi or Belle Glos. The nose is shy upon opening but after a couple of decanter days, it’s really come alive! Excellent with pork or salmon and turkey, it’s great for sipping or pairing. The mouthfeel is excellent and the flavors linger long after your last sip. Never thought California Pinot could be so authentic tasting. — 5 months ago

2013 Ontogeny Proprietary Red is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, coming from some of Russell Bevan’s favorite vineyard sources – Sugarloaf Mountain, Two Dogs, Tin Box and Tench. Quite flavorful, it is exhibiting slightly more new oak than some of the other cuvées, but is still sexy and opulent, with voluptuous texture, low acidity, and oodles of juicy, succulent black and red fruits, licorice, underbrush and a touch of vanillin. Light & fruity with some dark plum, anise & violet, a touch of roast. Fresh.
On the palate this is surprisingly light, juicy & lively. The cinsault really comes into play. Fruity, funky, with light tannins & juicy acidity. Fresh, crunchy fruit, a touch of bubblegum character, a herby note towards the finish.
So drinkable, and a lovely wine. Though might not be everyone’s cup of tea. — 4 years ago
