Grange Hermitage Bin 95 Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

Celebrating my Birthday last night with Roast Lamb. This was a deep crimson in colour - very dark for its age. Aromatics of blackberry, plum, mulberry and mocha. The palate is very Penfolds - black fruits, mocha and chocolate. Opulence and concentration are the key words. Never ponderous or over bearing. Palate staining intensity yet medium to full bodied weight. Great palate length and persistence finishing with supple seamless tannins. At least another 20 years in the drinking window - Penfolds say through to 2055!! Overall - one of the world’s great red wines in a superb vintage. — 10 days ago

@Andrew McIntyre @Anthony De Blasi Thanks for your well wishes. These birthdays seem to come around more frequently. Always worth it when you can have an aged Grange!

Bin 389 South Australia Cabernet Shiraz 2022

Dark ruby color. Called the “Baby Grange” for a reason. Wonderful nose with aromas of dark fruit and spice. Dry and bold with medium+ tannins. Flavors of black fruit, mocha, toasty notes, and oak. Balanced acid with a wonderful finish. Great wine for the price. — a month ago

Polish Hill Clare Valley Riesling 2013

Aromas of lemon, lime, mineral and white flowers ( the white flowers from an orange tree) - with a touch of paraffin (TDN). The light to medium bodied palate has intensity. Grown organically in the Polish Hill district of the Clare Valley. Definitely in the top 3 Rieslings in Australia - such purity. — 20 days ago

Leeuwin Estate

Art Series Margaret River Chardonnay 2021

Though young and subdued the wine wakes with an hour in a decanter revealing white flower aromas, lemon, apple, subtle oak elements, white peach and light green herbs. Loads of minerality, crisp high acidity and a compact form that only becomes more opulent with time. A terrific wine. — a month ago

Grange Bin 95 Shiraz 2019

98% shiraz, 2% cab. Ruby in color, with a unique nose. Flavors of dark fruit, black currant, spices, and oak. Bold and well balanced with a little extra dryness, which I loved. Simply fabulous and impossible to fully describe. One of my top wines. — a month ago

Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2016

Quite light garnet wide terracotta , garnet rim. Quite a lot of dry spice , nutmeg , star anis , red cherry, raspberry , red currant , earthy hints . After a while a bit more leafy , smoky on the nose. On the palate this is quite light and direct in style , raspberry , red cherry and those earthy , granite touches . This has fresh acidity and fine , light tannins . Reasonable earthy , spiced finish . Certainly ready and on this showing will probably last ok another 5 or so years. Not the most complex , overall I found it a little pedestrian, but still showing ok , but no need to wait any longer , I don’t see this improving . — a month ago
