Sepia filter courtesy of smoke filled skies here in Oakland. If the end of the world is coming we better get drinking. Let’s start with some regal Chasselas. Six years in the bottle this is starting to pick up some weight with hints of butterscotch on top of the lemongrass and citrus pith notes you’d expect from this stony little white. Shades of ruby slippers in sepia. Translucent, feminine, earthy - so stripped this verges on watery, but stiffens with volatile levels of acid and retains a sense of vitality. I loved this wine last year and remember it softer, more cohesive. In 2022 she's a little bit angular but it could very well be the time or the context. Like Chardonnay through a vintage View-Master. Hirsch giving me old school Cali vibes with an honest nod to Burgundy.
Despite the decade, high acid and oak seasoning in pastry like measurements. Opens up just barely into the tropicals - banana and mango - as little sprinkled hints in hazy rays of sepia sun and a Polaroid filter. — a year ago

The 2020 Barolo Prapò is a complex, beguiling wine that sizzles with Serralunga nuance. Graphite, scorched earth, lavender, sage, menthol and licorice meld into a core of sepia-toned fruit. This expressive Barolo has a ton to offer. Its mid-weight personality is a bit deceptive, but there is a lot of wine here. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2024)
