Very light in color. Sour licorice, raspberry, tart currant, and red apple skin. This really needs a second to play nice. Opens up with some forest floor. Keeps getting better.

Another great vintage for the new hedonists. That jammy stuff’s for the other guy.

Always a multi-day opera with this one:

Day 1: Luden’s cough drops, dill, coriander and pickling spices. Whiff of boiled weeds. And this is a fruit day. And the wine is clean as a whistle, tender and tempting. If you’re an Enderle fan, none of this sounds even remotely odd.
Day 2: Rancid strip mall Peking Duck, MSG straight out of the box, and cabbage boiled in a cheap aluminum pot. Wretched.
Day 3: The most tender, pure and clear cherry aromas and flavors, reminiscent of Tollot-Beaut or Cornu Chorey-les-Beaune of the 1980s. A long, palpable finish of immense, chalky minerals and vibrant acids. Extraordinary.

Needs a ton of air. Coiled up - closed. Very tart - light - bark - touch volatile acid but really not a big deal it blows off. Crushed marble quite acidic - lingonberry tart cranberries touch cloves - another E&M from the 17 vintage that should be left alone for a year or so. I suspect this will be brillant. However for now tough to read and certainly not a wine which you can put on the shelf I will definitely alert my wine-store friends that this needs time. I would not buy this unless you know E&M already.

As always a treat and one of the best and most unique Pinot’s for 30$+. I had this wine now every year since 2009. There are always the herbs 🌿. Best described as Black Forest mountain meadow potpourri. This wild thyme nose reminds me of the thyme that actually grows in this area. The wine needs to breathe for at least 30 min may be more - uncurls and is then classic E&M which I think would be recognizable amongst 100‘s of other Pinot’s. Tart lingonberry, pomegranate, chalk and just a tiny hint of pine needles and orange zest. This bottling needs at least 2 more years to settle down. So fun to open and explore right now but really not a drink now wine! Yes Lyle was right closed as fuck in Feb! Still hard to judge 8 month later.

Dusty, approachable and a great, uncompromised expression of the grape. I’d say simple but that would belie the amount of nuance the winemakers achieve by not trying to apply international winemaking styles

Pretty red fruits and florals, but high VA - think this bottle was slightly off
