San Valentino Sangiovese Blend 2017

Ming L

Like the Pipparello, this is a blend of Sangiovese, Sagrantino and Montepulciano. Unlike the Pipparello, this one sees no oak.
The savory nose is full of cherries, earth, and herbal spices. Very deep and complex. On the palate the acidity is noticeably higher. Intense and brooding. Powerful dusty tannins.
A wine making tour de force.

Estate Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot Blend 1999

Supple and more elegant than muscular. Wonderful on opening and even more pleasant over next two hours. It has a richness and a meandering way. Less focused than some of the more recent vintages from Monte Bello. — 16 days ago

Viña San Román Toro Tempranillo 2009

Still intact. But it’s too ashy and bitter for me.

Better balance and more suppleness on day 2.

Mount Eden Vineyards

Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay 2015

Ming L

A fantastic bottling that is rich, bright and delicate at the same time. Fully integrated with lovely smoky and mineral notes. Long elegant finish.
The winery note states full development by 2022. Agreed but should have staying power for another 4-5 years.

Aromatics were a little lacking yet the fruit on the palate was in abundance. — 13 days ago

Ridge Vineyards

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1997

Flight #2 of our 1997 Retrospective and these were the thoroughbreds. Presented single-blind; no formal notes. Wine #2 had great color, was developing, fresh, focused, balanced; great structure. One of those glasses of wine you didn’t want to end and, for me, a tough call for favorite of the flight along with Wine #1. I vacillated between this being Dominus or Monte Bello; ultimately calling the former. This is in a beautiful phase of life. Monte Bello is one of those wines that needs decades to show its best. Drink now through 2040. — a month ago

Alpine Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

2019 vintage. Light body. Fairly presh and delicate. Milk chocolate, rhubarb, strawberry, sandalwood and raspberry rolling through the experience. Seemingly carving out subtle extremes in what is actually possible in the SCM. 2.16.24. — 15 days ago
