What a nose! Oyster shell, lemon, chalk, a tiny salty, savoury thing too. The palate is clean, bright, broad and minerally. There is lemon, there is a pinch of salt, there is a powerful ball of a midpalate, and a strong long, powerful finish with lemon, that chalky mouthfeel, that pinch or salt and a superb everlasting smile on my face. A classic. 100% Viura from the Zaconia vineyard, located right outside López de Heredia’s winery in Haro. Fermented in ancient oak vats with indigenous yeasts and aged in used barrels for four years, followed by another 6 years in bottle. Complex nose with oxidative notes. Chamomile, flowers, beeswax, lemon curd. Austere on the mouth, with great acidity and freshness. Long, subtly salty finish. Amazing — 4 years ago

The aromatics were typical of a Mediterranean white with flowers and minerality more so than fruit driven. Initially a creaminess to the palate which finishes quite mineral/salty. The saltiness dominates somewhat at the end which finishes bone dry. Following day a great match with fresh Pacific Oysters. — 3 years ago
