San Benito County Cabernet Pfeffer 2020

What a wine! 2019 was tainted with some VA issues but this; this vintage is beautiful. William Pfeffer is smiling from his grave — 12 days ago

Torre Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Needs Another 10-15 years, has the Montebello nose but still too tart on the first glass. Give it a 4 hour decant if you’re opening anytime soon — 17 hours ago

Pizza Port Brewing Co.

Swami's India Pale Ale

The current West Coast IPA standard. Consistently fantastic in the 16oz can but catching it on draft at one of the various Pizza Port properties takes it up just a notch with slightly less dank and super clean high notes on the initial draw. Essential San Diego County brewha. — 8 days ago

Sandlands

Contra Costa County Red Table Wine 2019

My first bottle of the 2019 Contra Costa County “Red Table Wine”. The “Red Table Wine” designation from Sandlands is a bottling that I look forward to with each Sandlands release.

This years version from CCC pours a very pretty translucent ruby with a magenta rim and medium viscosity. Medium+ intensity. Initially, I found the nose to be a little reductive but the wine really begins to express itself and come alive after about 20 minutes of air. As with previous iterations, there’s an overwhelming impression of freshness. An extremely bright mixed fruits set with red, blue and black fruits, red and purple flowers and spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Again freshness is everywhere. Confirming the mixed fruits which comes across extremely bright and almost crunchy. The wine is spicy with lovely minerals with an almost crushed gravel characteristic too. Finish is medium+ and works so well with a variety of meals. The body seems to gain some weight with air. Good now but probably better in 2025. 65% Carignan and 35% Mataro. 11 barrels produced.

March Wines

Redwing Vineyard Old Vine Riesling 2018

Medium straw in color with definitive petrol notes on the nose. I also pick up green apple, honeydew melon, jasmine, and maybe a little beeswax. Very nice off-dry Riesling with deft acidity and a pleasant finish. Paired nicely with the goat cheese and cracker lunch before Thanksgiving dinner. — 6 days ago

2017 vintage. Intriguing and speculating this will have more to say after being open for a day. Good structure but pretty lean. — 7 days ago
