Les Pucelles Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2017

At the Toowoomba Wine Show Judges Dinner. This is from Olivier Leflaive not Domaine Leflaive. Les Pucelles one of the better Premier Crus in Puligny I think from the excellent 2017 vintage. No notes - too much socialising! But the wine was good with good potential. — 22 days ago

Les Sétilles Bourgogne Chardonnay

Crisp orchard apples, gravel minerality, a touch of oak. Bright palate with apricot and underripe pear. Great length at the price point. Well balanced. You can drink a lot of this. — 22 days ago

Olivier Merlin

Macon La Roche Vineuse Chardonnay 2015

A reasonably priced Bourgogne Mâcon, by Merlin from Roche-Vineuse (literally: wine rock!) in the Mâconnais region. 100% Chardonnay, round, rich, full, complex with a touch of wood. Fresh with white fruit - ripe apple and pear. Long finish. — a day ago

Domaine Leflaive

Les Pucelles Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2002

Decided to try a bottle of 02 Leflaive Pucelles, something that has given us controversy in the past with several prior POX bottles before. This starts with an amber gold color and the nose has notes of caramel and a little Sherry. I’m worried. I set it aside in a decanter and go to the other bottles. I come back to it an hour later and the color has lightened, the caramel and Sherry notes are gone... This is a classic case of confusing POX with reduction, as this was likely in a reductive state at first. I’m sure many might have dumped it right away, I’m glad I didn’t... it came back to deliver a nice and suitable experience. The fruit and acidity powered up, with notes of apricot, white flowers, sweet kiwi fruit, white acacia flowers and river stone. It was missing a little in the mid palate, but overall it was a decent wine. — 8 days ago
