Lovely pale gold with lightest silver green. Big nose of full throttle gooseberry, cooked lemon, grilled grapefruit and gardenia. Round, full mouthfeel turns lean in a citric instant as it pivots deftly to lemon pith, grapefruit peel, ginger, lemongrass and tart lime, with secret tangelo intentions. Juicy and abundant, but lively and bracing in a way that keeps it focused. Impressive Sauvignon Blanc from Napa. .

Surprised at how good this is with minimal decant! Qualifier is that I can probably easily replace this wonderful gift from my brother if need be!
Mondavi is an Icon and I love his wines! I am getting eucalyptus, black licorice, dark chocolate, dark brambly fruit, macerated cherry, vanilla and cedar! Pretty great on PnP..when your brain is screaming "you will be sorry" at you! — 19 days ago
Had this a year ago, aging nicely. A blend of 76% Cab Sauv, 8% Cab Franc, 7% Merlot, 5% Malbec & 4% Petit Verdot, 18 months in 60% new French oak, deep Ruby, purple edges, with aromas of berry fruit, sweet herb and earthy spice. On the palate flavors of cherry, ripe blackberry and currants with notes of cacao and sweet herbs. Long finish, grippy ripe tannins ending with graphite and earthy mineral. Drink now & over next few years, I still have a few bottles in cellar! — 19 days ago
2016 opened Nov 2021. This wine is young and just beginning to be drinkable. I give an 8.9 more for what I think it can become rather than what it is now (8.7). Heavy tobacco, nettles, and blackberry on the nose. Light fruit on the front, blackberries and — and someone mentioned vanilla? — I get the vanilla stick flavor — that becomes bitter dark chocolate on the mid palate. Tannins on the front of the palate are soft and of a medium density — so it took me off guard when this wine hit me with a strongly bitter but acidic ending. I found a bit off putting. Ten amore years and I think those components will fade. Drink this with a seared ribeye steak, or maybe a rich double chocolate cake. It’s a pretty powerful tipple and I suspect it will overwhelm most other pairings. — 22 days ago
No doubt about it Napa cab. Needed 3 hours of air to hit its stride. Initially very disjointed with a forest/pepper component and this odd sweetness. Then it seemed to integrate. I get a bunch of forest, vegetable garden, maybe even paprika, but very herbal. There is fruit with figs, plum, dark berry, mint. Overall very nice. Update on day 2: outstanding. Hitting on all cylinders with a ton of herbs, tart and dried fruit, great tannin, and spice. I’d rate 95 on day two. — 20 days ago
A perfect Mondavi ‘85. Fresh as a daisy. Continued to improve and elicit more and more fruit expression in addition to its complex tertiary elements over the course of the night. Not my typical wine of choice, but when you have an old school Napa cab like this, well stored and in pristine condition, it is a reminder why they hold such a special place in the wine world’s history. — 20 days ago
