McCrea Vineyard Athearn Estate Chardonnay 2008

Surprised at how well this was holding up (when comparing to the ‘09 I had last year). Plenty acidity. Lots of pineapple and white peach notes accompanied by chalky limestone and some herbal notes. I didn’t pick up a lot of savory notes like I have on other older Kistlers (like sea salt/popcorn kernel). I even picked up some green apple on the mid palate showing that this particular bottle has plenty of life ahead. — 5 days ago

Certainly not over oxidized, but definitely an oxidized character here. This one is definitely starting its descent down the hill, but is still pretty far up. The nose initially was showing some butter and cotton candy. But the wine still has medium weight peach and ripe pear notes. I was still getting this little cotton candy type of thing in the finish with a little bit of crushed rock. Very low acidity. Seemed actually quite delicate and still showed really good balance. Subtle, but actually showing quite well today.

Kistler Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2003

Smells like a Sauternes. Super cloudy, unfiltered and unfined in appearance. Acidic cherry yet softly cherry. Roses cranberries. Fresh strawberry. I like this a lot. — 4 days ago

Durell Vineyard Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2006

Really enjoyable chardonnay. Might be a touch past prime but this is drinking rather well. Lots of aged notes, herbal, asian pear, a little citrus and I believe that based on what I was tasting that it probably had more citrus at one time, but not so much now. Finish was very vibrant. Wasn't really rounded...lots more minerality than I was thinking it was going to have. Quite nice. — 21 days ago

Trenton Roadhouse Chardonnay

A great balance of tension, acidity, fruit and oak. Enjoyable from the first sip to the last drop. I just might like Kistler Chards more than their Pinots! — 11 days ago

McCrea Vineyard Chardonnay 2011

This Kistler was in a dynamite place. It was honestly a little bit awkward getting going. Muted fruit. Then a half hour later, this one decided to show. Mineral driven Chardonnay yet very viscous especially towards the finish. Front was a little more acidic and mineral driven.
Ample yellow fruit and herbs. Still pretty darn youthful! Middle had honeyew, cantaloupe, anise. Finished strong and more obtuse. This wine would have no problems kicking butt alone or with a dang steak!! A delightful wine. In Chardonnay zen today. The 14 Aubert Eastside was good, but this one was better!

Outstanding Pinot - great depth of flavor but light feel. Pops on the tongue. Fabulous alone or with a meal. — a month ago
