Annual birthday WWC hosting. As normal, 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert, all presented blind.

Fun to open birth year wines around your birthday, especially when you can do a Bordeaux and Napa side by side. While not a great vintage, this held up well after a few hours and presented as expected. Clean and zero Brett. Great color! Deep ruby with hardly any bricking. Leather, cassis, vanilla pipe tobacco on the nose. Sporting a good bit of dusty red and black fruits (mostly tart raspberries and blackberries), there was a little savory truffle note mixed with an herbal and mocha finish. Still quite grippy. Pretty.

Very intense, expressive and pretty nose. It keeps showing well on the palate with a nice long finish. Big wine for the vintage. — 4 days ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Can’t tell if not in a great spot or maybe some slight heat damage—but leaning to the latter. Tasty, but not as good as it should have been — a month ago

Château Branaire (Duluc-Ducru)

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Wonderful Bordeaux blend from Saint-Julien. Super dry dark blue fruit seamlessly integrated with aged wood notes of dark chocolate, raw tobacco and leather (remember chewing on this as a kid 😁) and smooth rounded tannins. A great wine to just sip, reminisce and… wondering where the oldest vineyard in the world might be? You want to know? Wow! This is still a broad shouldered , yet elegant, wine with smoke and dark berry led. Still has a long life left. — 17 days ago

Château Gloria

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Dark ruby hue. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, leather, plum. Plus body, full tannins, plus acid. Balanced, bold, and refined, with a long finish. Definitely worth pairing with hearty food. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. — 13 days ago

Château Branaire (Duluc-Ducru)

St. Julien- Beychevelle Red Bordeaux Blend 1924

No matter the scores on such an old wine. It had More depth but also lacking some sort of perfection experienced in other wines of the same age tasted together. Overall a great experience. — 2 hours ago
