Ebullient coiffure. White and high. Recoiling sectioned serpent turns caption ball lacing. Doughy, almost peirogi nose shows orange and tangerine piths, crispy breadstick, lightest white pepper, raw peanut, and caramelized shallots. Grape leaves, brown sugar sanding, salsify, baby corn and pumpernickel.

Fruity, smooth and flavorful. Pairs well with food or enjoyed on its own. I'd order this again. — 6 years ago
Guigal’s entry-level Côte-Rôtie, it is mostly Syrah with a touch of Viognier (4%) from plots in two areas of Côte-Rôtie: the Côte Blonde, with limestone-rich soils and Cote Brune (iron-rich, darker soils, hence the name. Aged for 36 months in oak barrels (50% new). Dark ruby color. Spices, smoke notes. Full-bodied, concentrated, but relatively lean on the palate (compared to the Saint Josephs tasted earlier) — 2 years ago
Strong head builder; just under cappuccino. Arch and aqueduct lacing. Dark chocolate ganache and espresso notes veil a burnt black cherry and dark rye bread nose. Black coffee and bittersweet chocolate grip the palate, with burnt pecan edges. A creaminess suggests hazelnut oil, cola bean, tonka, carob, and mildly, ginger snap. Easy to drink stout that doesn’t give in to superlative extremes. Lovely beer!

One of the finest St Josephs I’ve ever tasted. Quiet, calm, utterly pure Syrah that’s complete and close to perfection. Not trying to be anything other than the stately, refined thing it is. Reminds me of what this appellation was when no one wanted these wines and nobody cared. — 6 years ago
One of my favorite St. Josephs — 6 years ago
Augustiner-Brau-München Maximator dopplebock.
After an afternoon of stuffing homemade sausages as a fundraiser for our kid's school, there may be no better nightcap than this impeccable beer.
Chocolatey, toasty, very well balanced, even with its relatively high gravity, many new world brewers could learn something here.

47% mourvedre, 39% grenache, 14% syrah (on front label!)—this opens up so beautifully. If only I had a case to lay down. Laser beam thread of acidity, St Josephs/ Northern Rhone role model despite Southern blend, high toned: subtle, crushed black fruits, cassis. Absolutely charming but refined as well. Viva old school Cali makers like St John. — 6 years ago

Interestingly I had this wine with a bottle of 2019 Saint Josephs from Domaine Remizieres. The Mesa Del Sol was a bit more oxidized with a bit more acid, and the Rhone wine was a bit more complex, but they were very difficult to otherwise distinguish. Good job. — 3 days ago
