Drank 1/20/20. Nice with crab cakes.

Pours very dark in the glass, like an aged Sauternes. Nose of white peach and apple, with slight caramel notes. Peach and green apple on the palate, with hints of white pepper, backed by bright acidity and mild tannins. A very interesting white, that has not soured with age.

A unicorn wine presents a unicorn experience. First, all hail the Ramisco varietal, explained to me as singular to this area of Portugal and soon to be extinct given the level of building development there. From the label: “the Colares wine región was defined in 1908. The vineyards are planted in the dunes between the hills of sintra and the Atlantic Ocean “. The nose alone is worth the price of admission: vibrates with intensity, red fruits, cut flowers. And this was after drinking an intensely vibrant Syrah by Herve Souhaut!
Taste is somewhere between a medium bodied Rioja and a deep Mercia from Ribera Sacra, minus any traces of barrel aging. Utterly seductive mouthfeel, not unctuous or cloying, almost chewy. An intense pitch of acidity higher up on the register ( hence the Ribera analogy). 38$ for a 500ml bottle. A reminder why sharing wines like these with your homeboys is the only way to live.

Color is quite dark with different shades of purple. Nose of dark fruits like cherry, vanilla, oak, prunes, a bit wet mushroom, more vanilla, and some more dark fruits. Taste is quite silky, a bit sweet hickory note, mouthful, vanilla note, smooth and no edge with a bit zesty note. Aftertaste with addition of some acidity, a bit peppery, low tannins and easy to drink. Surely has backbone of Syrah in her. — 14 days ago

Was going to call the nose the “definition of port like” but that felt a bit silly. Suffice it to say this is fantastically delicious with an incredibly aroma and truly a minutes plus long finish with beautiful caramel notes. Quite a wine indeed. — 23 days ago

The brownish-gold wine smells delightful, all raisiny and lemony and full of brown sugar. The hearty palate shows the citrus beautifully and the acidity absolutely rips. Pair with any kind of after-dinner eats, from chocolate to fruit to a cheese plate.
