From half bottle. Birth year wine. Excellent surprise, this wine is quite precise on the nose with a saline minerality, yellow flowers, orange marmalade, some wax although the wine is quote fresh and not really tasting tired or oxidized in any way. Palette is unfortunately defined by an alcoholic weight (10% on the label) which detracts from the wine’s otherwise great elegance and ethereal nature. Not overly sweet with sufficient though not especially racy acidity. Overall very fun to drink and in a great spot from 375.

On the back label it reads, “Der Tradition verpflichtet. Nur hochwertige Rheingauer Rieslingweine mit kräftiger Saure, unter strenger Selbstkontrolle der CHARTA erzeugt, düfen dieses Zeichen tragen. Diese Weine sind besonders zum Essen und allen geselligen Anlässen empfohlen”.
That roughly translates to, “Committed to tradition. Only high-quality Rheingau Riesling wines with strong acidity, produced under strict self-control of the CHARTA, are allowed to bear this sign. These wines are particularly recommended for meals and all social occasions”.
I’ve been wanting to try these wines ever since I heard stories of Georg Brueur and Bernd Phillipi being total mavericks and spearheading the dry Riesling revolution in Germany, and this sure delivered. While not truly grand in any sense, it proved the ageability of the concept then. Still relatively fresh with a nose made of herbs, pear, grapefruit, anise, sea breeze, smoke, and hints of petrol. On the palate, really ethereal and pure, with citrusy elements, intense salinity, and laser-like acidity. Finishes long and nuanced. What a pleasure to have drank this. — 4 years ago

Very good for spicy food.
Round, lots of lime, very fruity when properly cooled. — 6 years ago
Fresh and lean ripper with clean fruit, intense smoky slate and unrelenting minerality. Very austere but also very appealing. — 8 years ago
One of the best I've had and had a lot — 9 years ago
Quite light green tinged . Restrained fresh apple peel ,
camomile and sea breeze notes . On the palate quite strict salivating acidity with more green fruits , along with the camomile and mineral , chalky, wet stone element . Quite lean with just a hint of sweetness to balance with ok length. Young but enjoyable for now and the next 5 -8 years or so — 3 years ago
Nicely evolved with some waxy notes, (over)ripe lemons, a hint of honey. Fresh.
Balanced & poised, good froth, tiny bubbles. Dried yellow fruit, orange marmelade, short bread and some toasted nut aromas. Rich yet bone dry & quite complex.
Very nice and works with Easter eggs esp. well. — 4 years ago
At first, wet grass, hay, pear, apricot and dried apricot, some petrol and mushroom notes... this is still very fresh, and has a beautiful touch of residual sugar that balances the still bright acidity. Washes over your mouth with secondary flavors of dried fruits and a long finish.
Above notes were before decanting... after an hour this is presenting a whole new fruit and floral perfume- unbelievably high-toned- like smelling perfume on a wrist. Blossoms above a deep muskiness. Magic! — 6 years ago
By the glass. Barb said aromas of Fairy Floss. (Aussies who have been to rural Agricultural Shows will be familiar with Fairy Floss - a sugary whipped confection). Also a note of Lemon and petrol, but oh so young - yet to display its potential. One of the least sweet Ausleses I have ever had. Great refreshment and lively acid. — 7 years ago
Så potent och fortfarande ung. Frukter ger och den oljiga munkänslan är helt gudomlig. Riesling på högsta nivå. — 9 years ago
