Jean-Claude Ramonet

Chassagne-Montrachet Pinot Noir 2017

I miss the tastings with this semi-confinement we are still in and stole the idea of @Benoit Duhamel here, so we made one at home with my son and my wife who are both wine fanatics as I am too. We chose 6 red Burgundies Villages, 3 Côtes de Beaune and 3 Côte de Nuits and we tasted these blind, each of us giving ranks and points for each wines. Tasting blind usually doesn’t lie and it can bring numerous surprises which it did in that case. All wines were fo a good level here, no bad wines and all were fun and good indiviually but the results were pretty clear cut in terms of the Côte de Beaune winning this battle.

1- Chassagne-Montrachet villages 2017 Jean-Claude Ramonet 32 pts
2- Volnay Vieilles Vignes 2017, Henri DeLaGrange 28 pts
3- Auxey-Duresses Très Vieilles Vignes 2017, Alain Gras 26 pts
4- Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles 2017, Bruno Clair 20 pts
5- Gevrey-Chambertin 2017, Lucien Boillot 12 pts
6- Gevrey-Chambertin 2017 Les Évocelles, Louis Boillot 8 pts

The Ramonet: nose of spices, cinnamon, red fruit, animal, gets more complex and extremely aromatic and fun with air. Freshness and vivid fruit with a nice finish, fairly long on delicious red fruit and spices. What a threat! My no 2. 91-92

On s’ennuie des dégustations et j’ai bien aimé l’idée de
@Benoit Duhamel , merci Benoit.
1- Chassagne-Montrachet villages 2017 Jean-Claude Ramonet 32 pts
2- Volnay Vieilles Vignes 2017, Henri DeLaGrange 28 pts
3- Auxey-Duresses Très Vieilles Vignes 2017, Alain Gras 26 pts
4- Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles 2017, Bruno Clair 20 pts
5- Gevrey-Chambertin 2017, Lucien Boillot 12 pts

Mon no 2 personnellement. 91-92

Les Bretterins Auxey 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Whole clusters on the nose as well as palate, earthy, nice generous fruit, mostly red fruit, very 2017 like for reds, lovely.

Vendanges entières au nez comme en bouche, un peu terreux et fruits rouges qui ont une certaine mâche, très bien et fidèle au millésime généreux en jeunesse. 89-90

Brut Réserve Champagne Blend

Delightfully “Bouzy” with tiny bubbles, a delicate nose of apple and lemon curd and flavours hinting at brioche, minerals and a subtle showing of marzipan on the finish. A perfect bottle for an anniversary celebration! — 4 days ago

Côtes du Jura Poulsard Blend 2018

Notes of sweet juicy cherries, elderflower, and ripe blueberries, graphite, mushroom, and forest floor with hints of clay, leather shop, and powdered sugar in the bouquet. Light-bodied maroon red with sharp tannins with tart cherry, plum, cranberry notes and a strong white tea tannins lingering on the finish. Tannins slightly chalky; needs good decanting. Fun and interesting value to try. — 9 days ago

Les Genouvrées Bourgogne 2016

Just a wonderful BB which we could honestly drink everyday if we had enough, prior notes still apply:

Nose has pear juice, ripe yellow apple, lightly oxidized green apple peel, baked phyllo dough, partially aromatic white flowers and damp rocks. I always get a natural wine vibe here, without the vinegar-like profile, but it seems alive!

Palate has baked green and yellow apple pastry, crisp acidity yet dense, candle wax begins on the finish and ends with dry granite. Great balance, very lengthy finish, clean and not cumbersome, superb vintage, long life ahead.

J.L. Chave Sélection Hermitage Blanche Marsanne Roussanne 2012

My contribution for a wine theme of “rosé and non-Chardonnay whites.” I initially thought this would be one of the bigger wines on the table (expecting a bunch of SauvBlancs and light bodied rosés, only for a 2008 SQN The Pontiff to claim that title), and while it eventually fleshed out, it took a while.

This negociant bottling of Chave's Hermitage blanc is made from 100% Marsanne from vine age between 50-60 years. This wine comes mainly from the lieu-dit called Maison Blanche which sits atop the hill of Hermitage.

I decanted this about 2hrs, then put it back in bottle to follow over the next 2-3hrs and it really hit stride towards the end. It poured a deep golden color, as expected. Roasted macadamia nuts and herb crusted yellow fruits on the nose. At first, it was like fine grained bitter honey, banana peel, and melon on the palate and a bit lighter than expected. It gained the traditional waxy component the longer it was open, as well as gained viscosity. The finish rounded out to show a mix of herbs, mineral, along some guava and papaya, and a dose of ginger. I think this is still young, and will be fun to follow over the next few years.

Vieilles Vignes Morgon Gamay 2016

Cloudy raspberry color that’s so intriguing. On the nose it’s crisp pomegranate, raspberry, and cranberry with subtle notes of smoke and dusty herbs. In the mouth the fruit is snappy and pure, with a pretty crushed rock mineral streak. High acid with sneaky tannic grip on the impressively long finish. Delicate, while remaining structured, and beautifully pure. — 8 days ago

Deus Ex Machina Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2007

Even better than last year’s bottle, which I called “the devil’s work” and rated 95. So much more emerging and the finest, grainy tannins just melted on my plate. Burnt cocoa, velvety cassis. Never got warmed up due to Covid doors open. This has decades to go. — 7 days ago
