It's austere, but that's why you bought a taurasi. Dried flowers, boysenberries, raspberries. Almost like an amarone. Well made; I think average score a tad low. Better than the 2016. — 2 years ago
First sips were disappointing in the brevity of the hit on the palate. Gave it an hour and it lengthened beautifully. This wine has a ton of fruit (crushed sweet red berries), velvety tannins, and great structure. I would be fascinated to see what 10+ years does to it — 3 years ago
!00% Nerello Mascalese, Single Contrada from a favorite Sicilian Producer. This isn’t the typical lighter, easy drinking Nerello. This has body, weight and complexity. Darker fruit: black cherry, blackberry, raspberry, smoke, with tannins and acidity. Definitely capable of aging but I have a hard time time not drinking them! — 9 months ago
Big, bold Nerello Mascalese. Probably needs more time but I was anxious to try it. This is Nerello on steroids. Big, complex and so good. — 2 years ago

Poured into a decanter 30min prior to service and enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2017 pours a deep ruby/purple color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart black and red fruit: mixed brambles, plum, black cherry pie with slightly burnt crust, cocoa, dried herbs and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is plush. The 15% is remarkably well hidden. This is one of those wines for me where I go, “How’d they do that?” But then I shouldn’t be all that surprised, this is Vega Sicilia we’re talking about. Drink now with at least a 30min decant and through 2032-ish? — 15 days ago
