More like a spiced herbal tea than wine in the glass, the 2020 Il Frappato wafts up with a smoky mix of dusty rose, sage, allspice and crushed ashen stone. This is pure and delicate in feel, with a salty flourish up front that gives way to citrus-tinged wild berries and red plums. It leaves the palate completely refreshed, tapering off with a staining of liquid inner florals and licorice nuances. While I don’t see the 2020 making old bones, it would benefit from a short stay in the cellar to help unlock more of its aromatic profile. It’s an understated beauty. 2022/8. I do think the great Etna reds are Italy’s Burgundies (if Burgundy was grown on a volcano in the Mediterranean)...perfume, flowery red fruit but with smokier, darker elements and that somehow autumnal thing that seems to run in many classic Italian reds (Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Nerello) — 2 years ago
Off the bat, gorgeous golden color and strong nose of honey and tropical fruit. More full bodied than I expected, with some nutty/almond vibes. Creamy finish. Fun wine — 5 months ago
Sweet oak, intense, black cherry, vanilla. Still needs time but very happy I got to experience. — 8 months ago
It's austere, but that's why you bought a taurasi. Dried flowers, boysenberries, raspberries. Almost like an amarone. Well made; I think average score a tad low. Better than the 2016. — a year ago
Drier than I wanted but tasty still — 7 months ago
It’s been hot as **** here in Campania which meant I didn’t have the chance to have some Aglianico till the air-conditioned comfort of the airport! So good! 🇮🇹 — 2 years ago

!00% Nerello Mascalese, Single Contrada from a favorite Sicilian Producer. This isn’t the typical lighter, easy drinking Nerello. This has body, weight and complexity. Darker fruit: black cherry, blackberry, raspberry, smoke, with tannins and acidity. Definitely capable of aging but I have a hard time time not drinking them! — 9 days ago
