Happy Canyon Of Santa Barbara, Central Coast

Blair Fox Cellars

Paradise Road Vineyard Syrah 2005

Held up reasonably well but it’s heyday was a few years ago. Still has tobacco, notes of blackberry, and chocolate but had lost the intensity I remember from earlier bottles. — 5 days ago

Special Botrytis Bottling Kick On Riesling 2011

Exceptional dessert Riesling. Waxy candied lemon peel, key lime pie, muskmelon, hints of gasoline, all wrapped in impeccable cleansing acidity. — 11 days ago

Jaffurs Wine Cellars

Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2015

Light Ruby, about 1/3 whole clusters were used and aged in French oak, 65% neutral and 35% new. Aromas of berry fruits with floral spice. On the palate flavors of cherry and blackberry, light in style, with notes of tea, well balanced with acidity. Soft velvety tannins, medium length, ending with an earthy mineral tang. Very nice! Fiddlehead Cellars

Happy Canyon Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Clean, dry, surprisingly light in color for the age... who the hell drinks 8-year old SB. The wine is smooth, silky, balanced...displaying ripe quince, pineapple, kiwi notes...no sign of grass or gooseberry. Elegant food wine. Ok, still not my fav grape, but delicious foil for Shaking Beef and Chicken Gyozo. — a month ago

Tensley

Colson Canyon Vineyard Syrah 2018

Inky deep purple in color with a nose of blackberries, black plums, peppered meat, and a hint of lavender. Full-bodied with good fruit up front with firm acidity and great balance. The finish lingers nicely. — 13 days ago

Paul Lato

Boogie Nights Larner Vineyard Malvasia Bianca 2019

Wow. This is a terrific white from Paul Lato. Super crisp on the palate, but with beautiful aromas of white flowers, maybe some green apple. Despite the tartness initially, the wine really billows across the palate into a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Lingering finish. This is NOT reminiscent of anything from Collio Orientali - it is pure California - but it’s excellent. Highly recommend. — 21 days ago

Actually, Dave, it turns out that was just a 13.5% EtOH/H2O solution. Tasted really good, though!
