Domaine Francois Lamarche

La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole Pinot Noir 2017

Slightly brighter and more ruby garnet appearance . Narrow garnet rim . This has more crunchy , cherry fruit focus , with some chalky , dried flowers , wet stone hints . On the palate this mineral note is also present but with strawberry and red cherry , a bit more structure , tannins a little more present , but still with good refreshing acidity . Lightly mineral , cherry tinged finish . Pretty decent length and freshness , though the Malconsorts does appear to have more layers . This is slightly rustic , less polished in comparison with the Malconsorts, a little more nervy and edgy . Pretty young still , I would give this a bit more time, another 3-5 years or so , and then should drink well over the following 5-10 years . — a month ago

Les Rouges des Baties Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. Black plastic cork; the standard for Dard et Ribo. The 2015 “Les Rouges des Baties” pours a deep, dull ruby/purple with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of wild black brambles, oil cured olive, roasted meat, purple flowers, black pepper, a mix of organic and inorganic earth and dried herbs. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. An utterly beautiful expression of Crozes-Hermitage and this worked really well with goose from South Dakota. I’m smitten. Drink now through 2035. — 6 months ago

Classic Melon de Bourgogne

Wow, really tasty with a delicate nose of wet rocks, and white stone fruits. The palate is bold, with a slight salty undercurrent, a nice acidity, and slightly tart fruit flavors of cantaloupe, apricot, and slightly fizzy on the finish, petering out into a delicate minerality. Great pairing for savory chicken dishes and best drank with a light chill! — 5 years ago

P'tit Max Morgon Gamay 2018

Very nice Beaujolais. Was quite curious how this would present given the wide variety of opinions on this wine. Aromatically quite beautiful - delicate flowers, lighter red fruit. Palate follows through nicely. Restrained at this point, and the 14% doesn’t present in any negative way. Long finish with great earthy tannins and good acid. Perfect cold night pairing with a rotisserie chicken. — 7 months ago

It’s been my experience that these need a lot of time to really show their best. I have never tried the 2018 vintage though.

Expression de Granite Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Melon de Bourgogne 2009

Pretty sure we tasted Guy Bossard’s 2009s in barrel in January of 2011, we were WAY late for our appointment that day (drove 90 minutes in the morning from our B&B near Chinon, started at Luneau-Papin, then lunch (which took seemingly forever), which in turn made us late for our visit to Marc Ollivier at Domaine de La Pepiere. After a great (albeit long) visit with Marc, he was then kind enough to call Guy for us to tell him the 3 idiot Americans who were his 4:00 pm appointment would hopefully make it by 5:00-5:30 pm. Guy was nothing if forgiving and gracious, he had a young Dutch gentleman there when we arrived, Fred Niger, who we found out later was in negotiations to buy Domaine de l’Ecu from Guy, which DID happen (and Fred and his wife still own the estate). Domaine de l’Ecu had already been biodynamic for some time (and remains so), and was maybe the first of the Muscadet producers to do so (???). This wine, the top end Granite cuvée, is still quite alive, but it’s time to drink up. Fun times wine tasting in Muscadet in January of 2011!!! — a month ago
