Love this stuff - love this grape, big fan of Alvaro Palacios… perfumed nose of red fruit, red flowers, and gentle spices. Smooth graceful on the palate, elegantly structured, generous red berried fruit, spice, licorice all wrapped in velvet — 2 years ago

Broc Cellars

Solano County Green Valley Valdiguié 2022

Signature Broc red profile: bright, acidic, restrained, delicate, light. Silky mouthfeel with a slight prickle. Didn’t know this grape, but I like it. Love the label. — 10 months ago

G.D. Vajra

Kyè Langhe Freisa 2021

This is a new grape variety for me from Langhe.

Reddish in color with a purplish hue.

Showing strawberries, raspberries, tart cranberries, light herbs, earth and dark chocolates.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with mild complexity.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins.

A very interesting dry red from Langhe. Feels like Nebbiolo.

100% Freisa grapes were aged for 9 months in mostly large Slavonian oak barrels.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$60.

I haven’t had a Freisa in literally decades. Need to drink one soon!

Ronchi di Cialla

Colli Orientali del Friuli Schioppettino di Cialla 2016

A new tasting experience on several levels. Had never heard of or tasted this grape varietal, Schioppettino. I was looking for a lighter red off the menu at Settimo, Guy Grossi’s new Brisbane venture. Chosen purely because of its location in Friuli ie. cooler climate. The Somm was in the dark but the wine ended up being a revelation. Red cherry and cranberry - intense white pepper on nose and palate. Dried red florals. Love this style. Will be on the lookout for this Cuvée in the future. — a year ago

North east Italy is a hidden gem for wines.
Right up against the Dolmite Mountains, warm days, cool nights.
Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige really deliver.
Foradori, Franz Haas and Alois Lageder
are producers I look for.

Totally agree Jamie. I generally love cooler climate wines. In Italy the Valle d’Aosta is another example next to the Swiss Alps in the north west.
