Foillard Fleurie

Clos De La Roilette

Fleurie Gamay 2023

2023 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie. Delicious. A meatier-styled Bojo, the nose displays deep oozy dark berries and black cherries, and granite-packed loam earthiness. Fleshy-textured in the mouth, it’s not a crisp style but it’s still decently fresh. Concentrated and deep flavors of sandstoney minerality and dark berries. A bit of textural tannin provides some framing. Really nice. — 6 days ago

@Bob McDonald - I fear that when this app’s “hospice” period is over, all those years of notes will die with it.

@Pinotman /// Andreas - I just created an account on CellarTracker, but it seems like a very complicated system. Or maybe I just need to play with it and figure it out. I’ll double post my notes there to see if that’s a possible viable route away from this disintegrating app.

Gents: I’ve been double-posting my notes on CT for years under the handle, “thesternowl”. I’ll keep posting here until it’s well and truly dead. But I feel the end is near.

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2023

Very nice choice by the Sommelier at Pastis in Nashville to pair with both grilled Branzino and Boeuf Bourguignon. (I know.). Bright, a bit astringent, fruit forward, with some structure but not too much. — 2 months ago

Domaine du Vissoux / Pierre-Marie Chermette

Poncié Fleurie Gamay 2022

‘22 must have been very good in parts of Beaujolais. Black fruits with Asian spices and souis bois ,a vaguely dark metallic quality on the nose, tilt the bowl and grapeyness rushes in. Refreshing acidity, not exceptionally long…but enough. Cleansing and and bright. Slightly perfumed on the palate with a lingering umami aftertaste. Pretty stuff.
$31 in Pennsylvania, then here comes a clearance sale, and it was $11!
The LCB in PA. makes no sense, favorably sometimes.

Cuvée 3.14 Morgon Gamay 2014

The fruit for “Pi” is sourced from Foillard’s oldest vines on Côte du Py. These vines are believe to be more than 100 years old. Popped an poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2014 “Pi” pours a deep ruby/purple color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of funky dark fruit: black cherry, purple flowers, a whiff of horse blanket, sous bois and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Beautiful stuff. Drink now through 2039. — a month ago

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Terroir "Champagne" Fleurie Gamay 2015

Leftovers from our 2nd Annual, “Bierock Bonaza: Let’s have some funza with Runza”.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 2015 pours a deep ruby with a slightly purple tinge and a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of lightly stewed, spiced strawberry, ripe fig, and cherry lozenges, red flowers, green herbs, with a touch of leather, and a mix of organic and inorganic rocky earth. Just the faintest hint of mouse. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. The alcohol is also medium+. Delicious. Drink now through 2030.
