Evening Land Vineyards

Seven Springs Vineyard Chardonnay

Good acid and fruit with a bit of a saline streak. Not much oak and Burgundian in style. Still enough weight and structure to enjoy through a meal including a 42oz porterhouse! — 13 days ago

Seven Springs Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Spice, fruit, earth, Oak all jump out of the glass. Layers and weight abound. A gorgeous tension supports the wine and leaves an ample finish. — 7 days ago

Sandhi Wines

Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2013

Wine of the weekend for me: Sandhi 2013 Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir. It’s got a coastal Cali quality that I call “where the ocean meets the land” — like a combo of pine and sea spray. — 2 days ago

Red Queen Seven Springs Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008

I've got a love-hate relationship with Oregon Pinot Noir, and now that I've figured out what I love oh, I'm going to start buying these when I see them! Very grippy, full throttle, fruit in your face Pinot Noir. But it does not go to a jammy or generic or metallic, almost watered down side. This, my friends, is Pinot Noir. Roasted Bing cherry, a little bit spicy, a little bit dirty. Very elegant and round all the way through out with a nice pucker on the finish. Kept coming back to this one more so than the Aubert Ritchie 10. Still a ton of life left. Really nice Pinot. — 2 months ago

First experience with this offering from Evening Land...thought this was really well crafted. I’m assuming whole cluster was utilized here as it gave it that perfumed lift on the nose with the spicy and crunchy palate. Potpourri, old bing cherries, stemmy aromatics. Cranberry tart, red clay, dark plum on the palate. Great acidity.

Krug

Grande Cuvée 162 Ème Édition Brut Champagne Blend

Last night’s “Evening With Krug” event, where they officially released their 2006 vintage. Beautiful evening with many different Krug offerings paired with a delicious meal.

Since the ‘06 was being released, they wanted to also pour the ‘06 base Edition. I preferred this over the 167, mainly because it seemed more Krug like. Slightly oxidative, toasty, lots of sweet toffee and nougat aromatics. Fresh honeyed pastry, ginger, and such a decadent profile on the palate. This is going to get even better, and is such a great buy...especially when these Grande Cuvée bottles have 88% reserve wine in them going back to the early ‘90s.
