Columella Liberatus Castro Bonae Spei Shiraz Blend 2004

This weekend will have a world Rugby theme starting with this South African red followed by wines from New Zealand and Argentina. Sadly Australia having fallen to #7 ranked in the world did not feature :( A great combination of fruit and savoury characters. A lovely fragrant plummy earthy perfume. Nice minerality with blackberry and raspberry flavours on a medium weight palate. A blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre. A world class Shiraz Blend not showing its 14 years and still a good cellaring future. — 9 days ago

Château Pavie

Saint-Èmilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

Thick and still quite blocky with fine noticeable tannins and a relatively monolithic center of dark fruit. It’ll be interesting to see how this develops. — 8 days ago

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2004

Limpid white flowers and classic CC fruit profile. Loads of minerality and resolved slatiness. Hints of lime and very pure and long. Real texture in the mouth and great balance. — 12 days ago

Domaine Bernard Morey et Fils

Les Caillerets Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2004

Light straw gold. Great white burgundy nose. Notes of lemon, white acacia flowers, apricots, gravel, and some leesy mineral funk. Rich and round in the mouth. Great fine acidity matched against lovely citrus dominated fruit. This is in a great drinking window right now. — 18 hours ago

Domaine Ramonet

Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 2004

Stunning wine in the zone. Power, finesse, balance—a great Ramonet though not much of the characteristic mint. — 2 days ago

"Les Clos" Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2004

Lovely deep fruit. Very intense and coiled steel with buckets of minerality and drive. There’s a whiff of stewed apple here. I see premox on the horizon, but this is fun now. Should be better in 5 years but certainly not this bottle. — 2 days ago

Le Mesnil Sur Oger Brut Champagne Blend 2004

So round and suave with razor sharp acid. Loads of mid palate here, great length. Not a bad drop of bubbly. Rich pomaceous fruit, sweet cream, brioche, button mushrooms, crumbled chalk. ‘04s from Cdblanc are drinking so well right now — 9 days ago

Still quite young with much tannic grip. Tar and leather, tobacco and a funk on the nose. Currants. Dark and smoky. More Kaa the snake then Baloo the bear. — 14 days ago
