Domaine Julien Cécillon

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Tawny with amber rims and nearly opaque. Old Bordeaux nose with some funk on it. Notes of black cherry, spice, old wood, cut cigar and some barnyard floor. Fruit still present and part of the equation with tannins mostly faded. The barnyard notes seems to be brett to me as it becomes a bit more pronounced over the evening (but I’m not as affected by it as some). I liked this more than others. — 14 days ago

@Mike Saviage, I have a few mags of this (no 750s), what’s your prognosis for maturity?

@Doug Powers Assuming no flaws like my bottle, I think the remaining fruit can support more age and it can improve a bit from here, especially in mag format

Château Branaire (Duluc-Ducru)

St. Julien- Beychevelle Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

12 years old and entering that vibrant, youthful stage. Makes me want to taste it in another dozen. Or every year. — 9 days ago

Very smooth after two days in decanter. Should continue to age 10+ years. To 2030, at least. — 14 days ago

7 hours of decanting opened the wine nicely. Classic nose w whiff of soil coming through. Big and bold wine. — 7 days ago

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

2007 comparative tasting. Perfumed red and black fruits. Elegant. Lighter bodied. My favorite of the 3 estates. — a day ago

Château Magneau

Cuvée Julien Graves 2014

2014 vintage. The website being very vague, the information is coming from other sources. A Sémillon (60%) and Sauvignon Blanc (40%) blend from selected parcels vinified completely in wood. Note that this estate produces more white than red, with 25 hectares out of 40 planted with white grapes. Brilliant light golden yellow. Exotic fruits and white peach with a toasted hint. Lightweight in alcohol (abv. 12,5%) but intense flavour of ripe pineapple and peach with crisp acidity and good length. Not particularly complex but attractive and probably at its peak. — 20 days ago

Château La Grange

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Opened a magnum and after a short decant the wine was expressing a classic and inviting Bordeaux nose. Tannins were a bit tight, and the concentration could have been better for my palette. — 8 days ago

Château Léoville Poyferré

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

2007 comparative tasting of the 3 Leoville estates. Almost like a blend of the Las Cases and the Barton. — a day ago
