Saint-Joseph Chemins de Sainte-Epine 2017

Lyle Fass

Wonderful showing. White pepper, granite, lavender, dark berries and earth. Loads of aroma presented gracefully. Some olive as well. Just lovely. Palate is ripe, generous and juicy but also super fresh, energetic and dynamic. Terrific acids in this. All the fruit is red and roaring. Lovely velvety tannins and a long finish suggests this can and will age for a while. Superb clarity here. Superb granite on the finish. Really long finish. — 9 days ago

Brut Cremant Du Jura Chardonnay

A lovely sparkling wine after a nice drive through the Rockies. Notes of yellow apple, ginger and quince, a little thin on the finish but very refreshing. — 7 days ago

Domaine Des Versauds Morgon Gamay 2018

Dark garnet purple. Inviting nose and medium palate of black cranberry and red apple. Medium tannins and juicy medium plus acidity from entry to moderate finish. Cru Beaujolais is either BeauJo Nouveau’s more serious or Burgundy’s more rustic cousin and this one offers an affordable entrée into the genre for those who enjoy either. A great everyday red that will accompany a wide range of red wine fare. Drink now. — 4 days ago

Classic JFG. Random funk on the nose yet finishes clean on the palate. En magnum. — 12 days ago

Les Chonchons Cotes du Jura Pinot Noir 2019

Sublime Pinot Noir, reminiscent of Coteaux Champinois but lite, ethereal, and with all the herbal freshness of the Jura. So much fun. — 11 days ago

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2014

The nose is made of lemon, crushed rocks, chalk and there is little touch of juicy pear that pops up after a while and when the wine is warming up slightly. We could add a tiny touch of vanilla from the barrel but it's very discreet. Lovely. This is everything I'm expecting from a 1er cru chablis. The palate is made of a massive acid backbone, almost overwhelming! There is matter to balance it but it's trodding on a very thin edge. Notes of chalk and lemon, and lemon peel are showing all around the way making for a super dynamic, vivid mouthfeel. The finish lasts for ever with this lemony and chalky notes but that vanilla touch that appeared in the rear on the nose makes a discreet comeback in the end and on the sides and that almost reminds me of white burgundies from way down south around meursault and puligny. Awesome, intellectual wine that delivers! — 5 days ago

Les Épenots Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2004

Enjoyed two bottles during Thanksgiving week 2021. The first bottle was good but the second bottle (on Thanksgiving night) was really pleasant. For 14 year old 1er Cru it was a great example of what good winemaking and good storage can do. Worked just right with turkey, stuffing and trimmings. Did not have the smokiness of any of my previous efforts with this wine (see earlier ratings). — 9 hours ago

Morgon Gamay 2016

Always as much pleasure, with Foillard wines. 2016 is perfectly to my taste. Between the juicy crunch of youth, and the more aerial floral character that the Morgons develop as they age. A juice that pinote with truffled and undergrowth notes. Delight of finesse.
