We’ve been eager to try this bottle from Martha Stoumen Wines after hearing so many wonderful reviews. 📝
We decided to pop and pair it with pesto pasta and grilled chicken, as we thought the vibrant, fruit-driven notes would complement the savory herbs and garlic flavors of the pesto. We also thought the flavor intensities would match up pretty well. It’s delicious! 🙌
This California wine has 54% Carignan and 46% Zinfandel, which were dry-farmed in Mendocino County and Oakley, respectively. 🍇 Martha Stoumen Wines pursues a low-intervention approach to farming the land and the resulting wines are known to be terroir-driven.
We gave this wine a slight chill before serving, which enhanced the freshness, and then enjoyed the evolution as the wine opened up. It is unfiltered and has a delicately hazy, pale purple appearance. 👁 This wine offers primary notes of black cherry, wild strawberry, pomegranate, violet, lavender, anise, also secondary notes of clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon. 👃 👄
We love the label art – it’s super joyful and beautiful! It was fun to learn that Martha Stoumen’s husband, Jon Patch, created this illustration and named it ‘post flirtation’ just after they had started dating. 💕💕

Ruby with aromas of red berry fruits, floral and spice notes. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry and raspberry with dried flower and baking spice. Fine soft tannins on medium(+) finish ending fruit character, ok to chill slightly before enjoying. Consistent. — 2 years ago
Blind Date wine. Definitely effervescent; the screwcap popped off! Pale pink color. Strawberry aromas. High acid, round on the palate when drinking room temp (blind, and didn't know to chill it!!), strawberry flavors and lingering minerals. Thought a rosé of pinot noir and/or from a cold climate with all that acid! — 3 years ago
Pale lemon with aromas of citrus and tropical fruit with floral notes. On the palate flavors of grapefruit, green apple and pear fruit flavors with some grassy tones, lively acidity. Medium+ finish ending with fruit, herbal, floral, grassy and mineral notes. Lightly chill so you can experience all of the nuances while you sip this fine wine. — 3 years ago
This is a nice and easy drinking Barbara from Lodi.
Showing red and black fruits with chocolate notes, tobacco, coffee, spices and peppercorn.
Nice nose with wild flowers.
Fruit forward and rich, with medium acidity and long legs.
Medium plus in body with a nice mouthfeel.
A good food wine with a tangy finish and soft tannins.
Good right out of the bottle and good by itself, too. Drink now.
I gave it a light chill and had it with cheeses and crackers.

This 6 year old is a very easy drinking Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley in France.
Good right out of the bottle, and gets more complexity as it opens up. Tannins show up after 45 minutes of airtime.
I had it 4 years ago, and it is drinking pretty much the same, although it did gain more complexity. Will not get any better from this point, so drink up.
Good by itself as a sipping wine and good with food. I gave it a light chill and paired it with cheeses and crackers.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
