Popped and poured; no formal notes. Opened this to sip on while I made sauce for dinner and it hits the spot 👌🏽. The 2019 Isole e Olena CC is clean and expressive with dusty dark cherries, black tea, orange pith, dry earth. Good structure for a variety of meals. Bone dry. A long, slightly bitter finish. A textbook CC. Drink now or over the next 5-10 years. — 17 days ago
Fruity bouquet. Slightly fruit forward Soft plums and soft dark cherries up front. Explodes into the roof of your mouth at the finish. Mild dusty old# world finish. — 18 days ago
Principessa Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa only releases Chiantis fit for a queen, typified by elegance and astounding longevity (her famed 1971 vintage is still going strong). Her historic winery holds to the highest standards, using only 100% Sangiovese and holding back “current” releases to ensure appropriate bottle aging for added complexity and refinement.
The resulting wine is the best kind of classic Chianti, with the classic aromas of sour cherry, fine leather, sandalwood, and cedar, fresh acidity, attractive fine tannins, and a long, complex palate impression. This style of Chianti Classico is a very useful wine at table, medium-weight, savory, based on fresh acidity rather than tannins. Best paired with Italian food. — 2 days ago
Made detailed notes and then lost them....must be an over 70’s thing. This wine was #6 in the 2014 Wine Spectator Top 100. Not your typical Chianti Classico with a small 7% of Merlot and 10% Malvasia Nera with small oak maturation. The first of 5. Some cherry/ red fruited notes. Savoury dry tannins. I prefer the more traditional style of CC. — a month ago
Badia a Coltibuono, or "The Abbey of good harvest," lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, between Florence and Siena. The Abbey is approximately 2000 years old. Blend of 90% Sangiovese; 10% Colorino, Canaiolo, & Ciliegiolo. Deep Ruby. aromas of black fruit and earthy spice nose. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with savory tannins, good balance, black pepper and cacao notes. Medium finish ending with earthy mineral notes. Good now, very short term aging benefit. — 23 days ago
