Chalk Hill Wines

River Trace Grenache Blend 2017

This is a very tasty GSM from Sonoma. Fruit forward with a touch of Rhône. Easy drinking with mild complexity.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Showing red and blue fruits, earth, wood, spices, peppercorn, vegetables, dark coffee and herbs.

Needs an hour to open up properly.

Spicy and good with food or by itself.

I paired it with a pepperoni pizza.

A blend of mainly Syrah with Grenache and Mourvédre. A small production of only 120 cases.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

J. Rochioli

Little Hill Pinot Noir 2018

One of the great Pinot Noirs from California that I have sampled over the past year, the 2018 Rochioli ‘Little Hill’ is a thrilling joyride from start to finish. Salted pomegranate seed and rose water tones combine with raspberry coulis and damp earth tones on this beautifully perfumed nose. The palate is utterly seamless as layers of bright red fruits mingle with umami, orange rind and salted charcuterie tones. A complete wine, this gorgeous new effort will have a long life ahead of it. Chalk Hill

Estate Bottled Chalk Hill Sauvignon Blanc 2016

The ‘16 aged well. Bill Foley continues traditions of Fred Furth who founded Chalk Hill in 1972, encompasses 280 acres of vineyards. Blend of 90% Sauv Blanc, 3% Semillion, 4% Sauv Gris & 3% Sauv Musque, the latter 2 adding interesting dynamic to the wine & distinctive aromas. Medium lemon color, citrus, tropical & floral aromas. Palate shows peach, melon, herb & earthy tones, well balanced with acidity, smooth yet robust on a long finish ending rich with wet stone character — 3 hours ago

Lingua Franca

Bunker Hill Chardonnay 2017

Becoming a big fan of these wines which can fool the best tasters to believing it’s high quality Burgundy...Precision and elegance, lemon lime, fresh herbs, sea salt and minerals. Finishes with very good length and focus. No decant, slow oxed for 3 hours. — 10 days ago

Bosco Chalk Hill Sangiovese 2019

Preferred it immediately after opening. With some air, felt a bit overly jammy. Paired with sausage pizza first night and spaghetti + meatballs second night. — a day ago

When had a glass, didn’t love it. Bit enjoyed it much more when we actually opened the bottle. For a 30ish dollar bottle thought it was great. — a month ago
