Château Marquis De Lalande

Château Marquis d'Alesme

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. First visit with this producer as it's rarely glimpsed in the Southern California market. Smoky, plummy nose. Medium body. Smooth, velveteen entry on the front palate that cruises the length of the performance until the fine-grained tannins at the conclusion. Super classy. Exactly zero speedbumps at this juncture. Refined enough to appeal to long-time BDX drinkers and inviting enough to welcome first-time BDX initiates. Showing beautifully now with very little to resolve. No personal history to draw on with this property but stylistically and regionally, feel this can easily go 10-12 years without effort/variation. Past that point, not prepared to say/speculate. 12.17.24. — 9 days ago

Château Tronquoy-Lalande

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Classic left bank kosę - black current, cassis, cedar wood, a bit of pencils shavings, a gravelly undertone. Fresh, restrained, savoury, pure.
On the palate this has a very nice, smooth, velvety mouthfeel. Present tannins yet so nicely polished & juicy. Good purity of fruit - black currants, blackberries, a bit of plum. Ni e length & depth.
Exactly what I expect from a St Estephe - medium body, savoury tartness with just a touch of fruit and excellent food pairing.

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Opened earlier in the day and double-decanted several hours prior to service; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 1982 pours a deep garnet with a near opaque core. On the nose, the wine is developing (still!) and slightly green compared to the ’82 Mouton that was poured alongside. Cassis, purple Chewy SweeTarts, green bell pepper, old wood, some earth and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry and has massive structure still. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and slightly bitter. Drink now with a long decant but there are decades of life left. — 12 days ago

Good to know! How long was your decant? And over how long a window did you enjoy it?

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

When the weather gets colder sometimes I drink Bordeaux. Probably one of the best vintages for the Château along with ‘82, and it’s in a great spot. Classic mature Paulliac with terrific complexity, an alluring sweetness and long, balanced finish with fully resolved, silky tannins. Fully open and giving. — a month ago
