Château De Saint Estèphe

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1989

1989 vintage. Opened but not decanted. Just got a (generous) side sample of this as I was entrenched with the weekly wine rep tastings. Tasted after 30 mins and one hour after opening. Definitely bretty (as expected) for the first tastes but that mostly dissipated by the end of the glass. Light-medium body with mostly bowed tannins initially. Longer it remained in the glass, the more the tannins came out to frolic. Still plenty of structure, fruit and front-palate intrigue (usually hidden/buried by tannins). Not improving at this point but-depending on storage and/or bottle size-still more than viable and deserving of massive respect. 01.29.25. — 4 days ago

Château Phélan Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Expectacular Bourdeux dry, delicate to the palate, long legs and dark red ruby color! Matches great with Onion soup and Berneisse Entrecut — 25 days ago

Château Gloria

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2021

2022 vintage. Deep dark red, with purplish rim. Very attractive nose already, with cassis, blackberries, raspberries, flowers and subtle cedar.
Midweight, with layers of succulent black and red fruits and fresh acidity, embedded in a ripe tannic structure. Great length, with a distinctive mineral touch. Not sure if it is as good as the incredible 2016, but a close contender for one of the best wines ever for this estate. Abv. 13%. It totally outperforms the Croizet Bages 2022 tasted alongside.

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Vintage 2019 | 375 ml | 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot | one hour in decanter | Cedar and pure chocolate, that mineral strictness that is typical for Saint Estephe, interesting smell, strict taste with powerfull tannins. Paired with rumpsteak and zucchini tarts. Lots of potential. — 2 days ago

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90min. The 2020 pours a deep ruby/purple color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of powerful ripe dark and blue fruits: Marionberries, figs, purple flowers, bacon fat, black olives, rocky minerals and soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Young, but this is another lovely vintage of Chave Saint-Joseph. Give it time. Best after 2030 and drink through 2040+. — a day ago

Château Montrose

La Dame de Montrose Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Popped and doubled decanted. Not that much sediment yet. Nose is rich in iron-scented wet clay, with sweet, dense cherry fruit trying to push its way through. Some dried underbrush as well. Densely-flavored initially, and then the relatively crisp acids take over, and the palate thins out a little but lingers. Flavors include barely-ripe cassis and dark cherry, with loads of minerally clay notes. Bone dry. Still feels a bit tight. Drinking well now but no rush. — a month ago

Château Lilian Ladouys

Saint Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Quick double decant. After 15 minutes, it’s already cookin’. Nose shows cassis, clay, a little underbrush, a slight menthol note, a little violet. Lots going on. Rich and a little macho in the mouth, like many ‘18s. There’s a fair whack of soft tannin, but it’s already drinking well. Intense and full. Not elegant, but gives you more than your money’s worth of flavor. Certainly will be better in 5 years or so. — a month ago

So, @Tom Casagrande, did you brown bag this AFTER double decanting it and drinking it at the bus stop? I’ve never figured out whether it’s socially acceptable to double decant, then head to the local bus stop with the bottle and drink it naked?? Inquiring minds trying to figure it out??!! 🤷🤷🤷
