Carneros Rosé of Pinot Noir 2019

Bottled for the first vintage ever? This previous champion of rosé canned wine is just as pretty from the bottle. Rose petals, Rainier cherries, and ripe strawberries. Pretty tasty and with plenty of acid to keep it interesting. — 6 months ago

Just Red Wines

Granite Belt Tannat 2015

Another obscure red variety from the south of France like the Durif from a few days ago this isTannat although some researchers say it may have originated in the Basque Country of northern Spain which could be correct as it was taken to Uruguay where it has enjoyed the warmer climate there, similar to Malbec flourishing in Argentina. I first tried this wine in 2016 at the Toowoomba Wine Show where I found it extremely tannic. 4 years of cellaring since then has served this wine from the Granite Belt well. It is another dense black winter wine showing Blackberry and tarry notes with Raspberry and Vanilla. Rich and full bodied with stern tannins but not as tannic as 4 years ago. Barb who doesn’t normally like big reds very much liked this. This wine has now won 3 Trophies in its Show career winning the Champion Alternative Variety Red Wine at the 2016 Queensland Wine Awards. — 6 months ago

If you want to experience tannat look for Chateau Montus and wait 30 years otherwise you will need a new set of teeth 😀

Golden Grove Estate

Vermentino 2020

This won the Trophy for the best White Wine at the Toowoomba Wine Show last weekend and went on to win Champion Wine of the Show. Colour is very pale lemon. Notes of green Apple - skins and flesh, also Lime. The palate has quince and mandarin notes - quite unctuous and fleshy on the palate - low acid and medium plus intensity. Even though the winery is in the Granite Belt/Ballandean the fruit is from Chalmers Vineyard in Mildura in Victoria. The 2020 vintage in Ballandean was probably the most challenging on record with droughts, fires and record low yields. As a result, no Vermentino was harvested at Golden Grove Estate. — 2 months ago

Gut, ohne Frage. Hatte mir aus verschiedenen Gründen mehr Tiefgang erhofft. Somit zum P L Verhältnis: er ist wert aber leider nicht für den Preis der hidden champion. — 4 months ago

How can the spell checker turn anything similar to Garagiste into Zelenograd?

House of Arras

Grand Vintage Champagne Blend 2007

Comprehensive notes from 24 weeks ago still apply. Definitely Australia’s best sparkling I think, from Tasmania. Straw and hay aromas with fresh bread. With over 7 years on lees giving this quality and complexity if it was French you would be paying a couple of $100. Champion wine of the Brisbane Wine Show in 2016. — 3 months ago

This was suppose to be a Friday night happy Champagne toast. But like Neapolitan, we drink Champagne in good & bad times.

We raise a glass in celebration of one of the greatest women of our time. Ruth, you were a true champion of Justice for the people. Rest in power. You have earned it. Can’t think of many more deserving. You wanted to hang in there for the people. We are forever sorry destiny had other plans. “2020, The Year of the Apocalypse!”

It has been a long time since I’ve had a Nicolas Feuillatte anything and never had their Rosé until It was at Costco for just over $30. I thought to myself time to give it a try & grabbed one.

The nose reveals; black cherries, strawberries, deep, ripe, watermelon, pomegranate & cranberry juice, hints of tangerine & even less rhubarb, cherry kirsch, good presence of yeastiness, bread dough, baguette crust, oyster shells, sea spray, some white spice, watermelon Jolly Rancher/fruit roll ups, fruit tea, saline, grey volcanics, soft chalky powder, candied, red florals that are brilliant with pink & red roses.

The palate is; round, thick, rich, lush & highly polished. Micro oxygenation. The fruits are very ripe, deep and juicy. Black cherries, strawberries, deep, ripe, watermelon, pomegranate & cranberry juice, hints of tangerine & even less rhubarb, cherry kirsch, good presence of yeastiness, bread dough, baguette crust, oyster shells, sea spray, more white spice on the palate with heat, watermelon Jolly Rancher/fruit roll ups, fruit tea, saline, just a splash of herbaceousness stingy, grey volcanics, soft chalky powder, candied, red florals that are brilliant with pink & red roses. The acidity is round & lively. The long finish is nicely balanced fruit & earth with a long set of spice that persists minutes.

Serviceable at this price point but, it’s not going to replace my BSR & Ruinart N/V Rosé habit.
