@Jay Kline as good as 21 but slightly different. Abbaye, Echezeaux are tops for red and white, but NSG/VR and Aubin are right there. Insane collection.

Hommage à "Marguerite" Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2017

On first tasting this wine it was noticeably saline and mineral/gravel on the palate. Also notes of citrus and white stone fruits. Oak influence is subdued - matured in 350 litre oak barrels. Overall a great balance between austerity and opulence. Points off for a ridiculously heavy bottle. — 3 months ago

I just had a glass and honestly this is what you want Chardonnay to taste like. Honestly. Amazing. Citrus, almond. Fresh. I’m here for it — 3 months ago

Cuvée Marguerite Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2016

Lemon Yellow in colour. Aromatics of citrus, apple and white daisies (Barb). Very delicate on the palate with those aromatics of citrus and apple coming through with minerality. A touch of salinity to finish off. Like most PYCM bottles this is way too heavy. — 8 months ago

Les Champlots Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2019

Grapefruit and plenty of mineral on both nose and palate. Some austerity as you often get with Saint Aubin. As Jasper Morris MW describes the terroir - “A steep south west facing vineyard overlooking the hamlet of Gamay. It offers attractive wines but not in the First Division of St-Aubin.” The following night notes of mandarin on the palate with the ever present mineral. — 21 days ago

Aux Thorey Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2019

Lyle Fass
9.8

I’m starting to get a little nervous about 2019 red Burgundy. The vintage was so dazzling young that people, understandably, got seduced. It reminded me of 2005 in that way, huge early authority, massive promise, the kind of wines that make you think you are looking at immortality. But now I’m seeing the same thing I eventually saw there: a slightly roasty evolution and a pace of maturation that feels faster than I’m comfortable with. This 2019 Pierre Brisset Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey is still gorgeous, a 9.7 wine, but it also reinforces the point. If I had real depth in 2019s, I would not be waiting around for some imaginary perfect plateau. I’d start drinking. This really got younger and more dense overnight and is drinking way better. 9.7 to 9.8. — 3 months ago

Saint-Bris Sauvignon Blanc 2023

My first Saint-Bris! Pale lemon yellow color. Plush aromas of citrus fruit, white flowers, chalk and abundant fresh herbs. Flavors of unripe peach, all those savory herbs, green apple and lemon zest. Noticeable mineral backbone on the long and drawn out finish. Lively and crisp acidity. Medium-minus body and wonderful freshness. Vibrant and harmonious! There are Chablis comparisons here. Another example of outstanding white burgundy! — 5 months ago

Insane nose: red cherry, tea, a little sauvage underarm complexity, and stunning elegance. Limpid, lithe, fresh, and full of movement, with lower acid than 2021 but incredible life. — 4 days ago

@Jay Kline he nailed it but also 25 in barrel is ridiculously great. Deeper bass but just as insane. The man lets the vintage show itself without ever sacrificing his touch.

@Lyle Fass from what I heard in Champagne last year (and would expect similarly in Burgundy), where the 2024 vintage was “horrible” to work through, the 2025 vintage was “perfect”. Of course, great wines can be made by great producers in either year, there just may not be as much to go around in the former.

La Chatenière Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2017

More delicate than fulsome. Definitely more citrus than stone fruit. Palate intensity is medium plus - some mineral and spice. A classy bottle of white burgundy. The trademark heavy bottle from PYCM. — 2 months ago
