Sous Roche Dumay Saint Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2019

Lyle Fass
9.4

Nose is dynamite. Meyer lemon. Discreet oak. Floral, wet stones, wet earth, peaches? Superb delineation on the nose between, earth, mineral, flowers and fruit. As it opens more lime pith, more slate? Almost Mosel like. Wow, acid, concentration off the charts. Really young, but so clean, so pure and so long. Also initially closed. What density and what amazing material. Really nice texture and again, this is so mineral driven it’s crazy. Such a wealth of material here.

As it airs some spice develops. This seems really backwards and needs time but also is so so fine. Could be Chassagne. Explosive mineral finish and so earthy. This is as old school as St. Aubin gets. Saline, rocky and earthy. But finish is clipped as a function of its youth but man is this promising.

Le Banc Saint-Aubin Chardonnay 2018

Very nice. Lively acidity with pretty citrus and mineral notes. Nice now, but better in a few years. — a month ago

Pierre Gonon

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2018

Black raspberry, creme de cassis, creme de violet, hot iron, ink, dried beef, woodsmoke, laurel, pine forest, ash, pastille, blood, granite. Thick, dense with tannins that show the heat of the growing season. Remarkably balanced and even keeled given the warmth, not losing the savory and meaty nature Gonon always carries. The granite is biting and persistent throughout the palate, balancing all that chewy fruit. — 19 days ago

Nuits-Saint-Georges Pinot Noir 2014

Beautiful light sparkly Burgh, perfect for roast chicken/poultry. Evokes cherries both in color and palate. — 6 days ago

Domaine du Pas Saint Martin

La Pierre Frite Saumur Chenin Blanc 2019

Aromas of honey, toast, mineral, lanolin

Some residual sugar up front, then a lovely balance of confected pineapple, lemony acidity, a light note of fresh herbs, talc, and a slightly boozy finish.

What a nose. Huge minerals, floral, iodine, red fruits, floral like crazy. Raspberry spice cake, birthday cake, sick. Nose is 9.8. Mineral, iodine, unreal sweet fruit and decadence, but washed with minerals. Insane citrine and soil tones. So precise. Better than 2018 by a mile. The nose is complex beyond belief. Amazing energy and sweetness. — 20 days ago

— 19 days ago

Le Calice de Saint-Pierre Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2016

Great pairing with a Malaysian style, curry based dish from Green Chef. The warm, peppery flavors, full bodied soft tannins in this Southern Rhone perfectly matched it. 1 + 1 = 3. That is so fun about wine. — 5 days ago
