Night 1 of the Fall WNH event in San Antonio. What a killer start to the extended weekend, all courtesy to Shawn and Jennifer for hosting! Tonight was Italian wines.
This was my second contributed bottle. AG rates this 100pts. Just a few years from its prime drinking window! Red and black fruit medley. So ripe and earth driven. The entry and mid palate are bright fruit but the finish turns dark and tannic...strawberry tart & crushed potpourri. I would love to try this again in 5-7yrs! — 6 years ago
Another vintage, another lovely Chianti Classico Riserva from Castello di Monsanto which continues to be a benchmark for wines from San Donato in Poggio. Popped and poured; enjoyed over two days and consistent over both. The 2019 Monsanto CCR pours a deep ruby color with a translucent core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and no signs of sediment. On the nose, baked mixed berries, dried green herbs, red carnations, dried gravely earth. On the palate, the wine is dry. Medium+ tannin and Medium+ acid. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is medium+. A lovely pairing with almost any red sauce dish. Drinking well now and I expect it will continue to do so through 2034. — a year ago
Had this at mercato di San Lorenzo in Florence. Drank with some remarkable crostini. Pink peppercorns anchovies, stretchy cheese. Great glass , I like this . Minerals. — 5 years ago
2015 vintage Chianti Gran Selezione.
80 % Sangiovese, 13 % Merlot and 7 % Malvasia Nera.
Deep dark ruby red.
Perfumed nose with black currants, violets, olives and cocoa.
Ripe black plums, leather, black tea with polished silky tannins.
A long, beautiful finish. — 3 years ago

2012 Il Brigante from Castello di Amorosa is an spin on zin. I mean to say it is phenomenal! Spicy and full flavor. Loads of black cherry and blackberry at first then followed by a tangy (not bitter) blast of perfection in a glass. The spice and vanilla take the tongue hostage and finish it off it a moderately dry oak and earthy ending. My God this is good wine. And affordable! Look out San Antonio winery, I have a new favorite!!!! Castello di Amorosa baby!!!!!!!!! — 7 years ago

See previous Note. Old plummie, red cherry notes. Barb said dusty and pine needles. A cooler vintage. I said red cherries and freshly tilled loam. As Galloni said “In 2010 Ama did not bottle their single vineyard selections. All the best fruit went here.” Tasting more the quality of a Brunello than a Chianti Classico. No. 6 in Wine Spectators Top 100 for 2015. — 24 days ago
