podiatrist and wine lover for over 30 years!
Holy Cow. THE PROS ARE NOT ON MY PALATE RATING!!!!!! This is the best of the three. No, its not my third full glass of wine. I have now sampled 1oz of each wine. This is Mount Peak Winery’s 2014 Rattlesnake! This is 100% Zinfandel from Sonoma. From the highest point on Monte Rosso Vineyard, where actual rattle snakes can be seen on the vines, Rattlesnake is my favorite of the three - Sentinel and Gravity being the other two. The bouquet is fig pudding! The initial palate is loaded with dark fruit including blackberry, ripe fig, dark currant, blueberry, and black cherries. Then comes the chocolate and spice!!!!! Love the spice. It is not too much nor too little. The finish is also smoky and dry as any wine I have ever had!!!!! Ill take that glass of water now. I love this Zin!!! Okay... the Gravity is just as good. If you like spice- Rattlesnake is it, but if you like dark fruit as the leading flavor, you will love Gravity! But heck the cab is kick ass too!!!! — 12 days ago
Mount Peak Winery on top of Mayacamas mountain range where the soil is bright red and rich in Iron, is one of my new favorite wineries in the world. This place was dormant and untouched as a vineyard from 1886 to 1920, when prohabition began. It was called Monte Rosso Vineyard. Today, they still have the same vines and fig trees that have stood the test of the elements and time. They produce three of my new favorite wines: rattlesnake zin, sentinel cab, and gravity - a beautiful blend of petite sirah, cabernet sauvignon, and zinfandel. This is the 2014 Sentinel Cabernet sauvignon! It is worth every bit of the 60 dollars it costs. The nose is the perfect cab - blackberry cobbler just pulled from the oven. The palate is blackberry and dark currants with cedar and oak. There is a buttery hint to it followed by a tingle on the edges of your lips!!!!! The finish is dry leaving you thirsty for more! This is an awesome wine so typical of California cab. What I love the most in a wine can be found here! I highly recommend this to anyone who loves California Cabernet Sauvignon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is better than the last bottle I had! — 22 days ago
Joseph Phelps’ son Josh has done it!!!!!!! Josh Phelps wanted to make an approachable wine for people under 100 dollars. This is 22 dollars and holds its own against any 100 dollar cab Blend I have ever had and its from WASHINGTON!!!!! Holy crap. I am so impressed. I am also drinking his Steady State which is 66 dollars, and is equally as good with more perfume flare on the nose and more merlot blend on the tongue. But for 22 dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am buying a case of this Collusion 2016 red wine! This will be my new go to house wine!!!! To sum it up:SMOKY, red licorice bouquet, blackberry and dark currant beginning with a twist of raspberry. Vanilla and butter follow with a French oak following. Earth and spice notes on the dry finish. No sourness noted after decant of 20 min which was evident at first. OMG .. 22 bucks???? Really? I love You tube and wine tasting videos! What a find! You Rock Josh Phelps. — a month ago
Wow... the second wine of the night from Mount Peak Winery. This is GRAVITY- a blend of Petite sirah, cabernet sauvignon, zinfandel and three other unknowns Im working to figure out. Im guessing cab franc, merlot, and who knows... well they do, but are not telling. Nevertheless, this is exceptional!!!!! Dark cherry and violet bouquet just like the cab - SENTINEL. The palate brings on blackberry of coarse with dark currants, blueberry, boysenberry, ripe figs, and a hint of strawberry, yes!, but not sweet! Then comes the vanilla and silky buttery mid palate. The finish is dry and lip puckering goodness. I need water!!!! Whew. OK forget the water just give me another sip! Stay tuned for the third wine- Rattlesnake!!! - Mount Peak Winery’s Zinfandel. — 12 days ago
Amarone excellence once again! 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella classico! Almost perfection in a glass! The color has the classic European brownish tint to the deep purple color. The bouquet has that ripe plum pudding and violets on a hot summer day. The palate is tantalized with sweet dark berries and cherries followed by spice and chocolate. Then flavors of cigar and leather fold in the dry finish with slight mint like tart ending. Yummy! My absolute favorite Amarone! — 17 days ago
Josh Phelps - sone of Joseph has done it!!! For 65 bucks you can get a high end caliber wine that is as good if not better than any 100 dollar California cab I have ever had. This is his 2015 Steady State red wine. Bouquet is rhubarb pie and soft purple violets. The beginning is dark fruits and berries followed by a mellow vanilla and chocolate mid palate. The finish comes very slow and delivers an Earthy tone with a mildly dry Finish. I am also drinking the Collusion 2016 blend from Washington and it is better for a fraction of the price - 22 bucks!!!!! Steady State rocks. But for the price, try the Collusion!!!!!! — a month ago
Mount Peak has three main wines, sentinel, gravity, and rattlesnake. This is the Sentinel - cabernet sauvignon. 2014 14% NAPA and 86% SONOMA. The color is dark as a cab can be. The bouquet is black cherries and violets. If Deep purple had a taste, this would be it! The palate has blackberry, ripe currants, black cherry, dark chocolate, cedar and oak tones, smoke on the water! Wow. Beautifully done. Check out my next rating - gravity 2014 red blend followed by Rattlesnake 2014 zinfandel!!! — 12 days ago
Viva Belle Glos pinot noir vino tinto! This is Belle Glos pinot noir Dairyman form the Russian River Valley 2016. Some say it’s a Cab drinkers Pinot. I agree!!!! Very dark for pinot noir! Bouquet of Hot cherry pie and applesauce. The palate delivers blueberry, cherry, fig, and blast of chocolate! Then cones the oak and earth flavors. The finish is mildly spicy with a minimal dry ending. Yet the lingering sweet fruit on the afterthought is absolutely AMAZING. Big big Chocolate!!!!!! Wow. The flavors keep coming back around. Wow!!!! My favorite Pinot Noir Ever!!!!! Thank you Audra for the suggestion! — 15 days ago
Hall Wines own Jack’s Masterpiece 2014. Cabernet Sauvignon. One of the best Napa has to offer in my mind. I hate giving Wines a perfect 10, but dang!!!!!! Come on. Is this for real? Super dark berries, buttery spice, oaky earth tones!!! What more can I say. Minimally dry! Delicious to the last sip. You must decant for 30 minutes and BAM! Good golly miss Molly! I’ve just been hit by a smooth Criminal! Where did my dignity go???? — 25 days ago
