Really impressive Aussie Chard from Victoria.....tons of slate and mineral but also rounded and has nice hints of grapefruit. Not flabby but not steely minerality. Nice wine from a region I know nothing about but was strong recommendation from some winos here. I feel like a real CHARLIE for not trying this before. A real TREAT after a LONG day in the PRICKly sun without any Nivea — a month ago
This is a Chardonnay from Mornington Penninsula, which is a wine region I was unaware of (about 45 mins outside Melbourne). I was really blown away by this wine. Reminded me of a junior version of Cloudburst. Great balance, completely electric minerality......polished but not overdone. Best surprise wine I have had here (I am not posting the wines that have been disappointing). Restaurants here are too into the Arts series from Leeuwin, which is fine but a bit over rated. — a month ago
Some winos here told me to try Wendouree. Absolutely brilliant wine. I think I have tried it before via JLong or JMcCusker but I don’t remember specifically (probably due to other influences). From Clare Valley, it’s is a classic old Shiraz style.
Lighter body, menthol on the finish, cherry, tobacco and blueberry on the approach.....long long finish. Well, there goes my afternoon — a month ago
Can’t come to Aus and not drink Torbreck. The Struie is a great QPR wine, and the 2017 is drinking really well. Tons of spice. Less juicy than most Torbrecks but tons of sweetness and tobacco, leather yet really well made. Nice glass ahead of lesser wines in Chinatown in Sydney — a month ago
Great combination. Cloudburst has to be the closest Chard to a high end white burgundy outside of France. This 2013 was spectacular, with electric minerality. The 1998 Hill of Grace is claimed to be one of the 3 best Australian vintages (along with 02 and 06). Whoever says that Australian wines can’t age is just dead wrong! Anyway, tasted like an aged cuvée CDP and the depth and structure was just outstanding. — 23 days ago
Well turned out this Chinese restaurant (Golden century) has an amazing wine list. Had to get the run rig.....100 pt (Parker) for less than $300. This is the shit! Just an amazing wine. Plum, blueberry, menthol and ridiculous balance......off scale wine — a month ago
Didn’t get a chance to visit here in Margaret River last year, so wanted to give this a run out. Really excellent cab, more Bordeaux-esque than Napa. Really well made wine, excellent finish. Tons of structure, probably too early to drink but it is still really approachable now. Pairs well with crocodile and skippy! — a month ago
