This was from the time when the French were saying California wines wouldn’t age. The label says it should have “a long life approaching 20 years”. It’s delicious at 40. Laurel Glen and Steiner vineyard grapes. — 6 years ago

1982. Beety, bloody, powerful (but not heavy). Wonderful pinot noir. Chalone pinots from this period are California classics. — 8 years ago

This would make a confusing ringer in a Pommard tasting. I loved the beet and chanterelle savor and the great black cherry fruit in the still vibrant 35 year old! The tannin and acid balance was perfect and fantastic with our pork!

Love Domaine Parent. Did a wine dinner with them early this year that was ridiculously good. They make a grand cru Corton blanc!!!! Insanely good.

@Joe Lucca I am so glad you enjoy them too. I need to drink more of their stuff- especially Corton Blanc!

2005. Corton-Charlemagne in all but concentration. Elegant, nutty, long. Does anybody know what DRC does with the fruit from this plot? — 8 years ago

More than a nod to Corton Charlemagne here! Nutty, layered and yet still completely vibrant and fresh!

1998. Palmer-like nose--so expansive. Only missing the meaty bass notes. Orangey with zing. What Syrah should be!

My dad brought this fantastic bottle to "camp" at Squaw and paired it with pork tenderloin medallions, corn salad and potatoes baked in butter. The Greffières was so generously aromatic that it would give a top Vosne a run for its money. This had lovely eucalyptus and mint, very nice texture, light body for Hermitage and a very fresh, bright finish. The tannin is totally resolved at 19 years old. Lovely wine!
