Opened yesterday. Quite bretty and reductive upon opening, but the funkiness has blown away now. The nose shows cola, dark cherry, green pepper bell, and black pepper. That cola note is something I usually get with natural wines from loire and beaujolais. The palate is yummy with a great acid drive, some superb cherry notes all along, some black pepper, some pomegranate touches, a bit of a drying layer in the rear that is quite peppery and a long fruity, joyfull finish that goes on for a while. It's not your typical extracted chinon. It's a modern, low intervention style that is delicious but needs time to settle. The anti-brett community out there might have a hard time with it 😅 but give it some time to breathe, and you will be rewarded.

Blend of Merlot (72%), Cabernet Franc (13%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Malbec (5%). Dark ruby color. Aromas of both red and black bramble berries with a hint of leather. Blackberry, black currant and plum fruit flavors with additional notes of black licorice, chocolate and menthol. A bit tart on the long finish. Smooth tannins and full bodied. Deep garnet color with a hint of brick. Leather and black cherry on the nose very subdued alcohol. Earthy notes at first then dried orange peel dried montmorancy cherry leather and a bit of smoke. First taste!? Mature with a bit of bricking but still nice solid color and bouquet of mature red fruits and earth. Velvety and enticing on palate. Excellent with Evan’s Shanghainese pork belly. 51/43/4/2 Merlot/Cab/CabFranc/Petit Verdot on label from Bernard Magrez touting same attention as his Pape Clement, and long history dating back to 1120. Importer label says 37/55/6/2 instead! (Oldest in Medoc, 1400 by house of Foix loyal to King of England. 1486 Camet new owner. 1500s by Michel de Montaigne.) — 2 months ago
