Brilliant magenta. Maybe the most delicious young Chinon (or cab franc for that matter) I’ve ever tasted. Pure varietal character with no compromises— all the freshness, lightness and peppery bite one wants— yet with perfect ripeness. And by that I mean this hovers on that magical edge where the grapes must have been picked at the ideal moment, down to the minute, to produce something not just giving but with all sorts of push and pull. Flirtatious, seductive.
The fruit and flowers are achingly fresh: black raspberries, red and black currants, elderberry, violets, roses, fresh herbs, and an ever so slight cocoa sweetness. Spot on acid and the tannins are handled so deftly that you hardly notice.
I can’t get enough of this.
