Tried this wine last year (see previous review), and loved it. This bottle also rich and complex. Has beautiful musty age on the palate. Still believe it is at is peak.. mature... and should be enjoyable for another 5 yrs if properly stored. But I might not take the chance. Excellent bubbly, just doesn't have the cache of the champagne designation. Vibrant and high pitched with lots of apples, biscuits and toast. For $15 a bottle, it's a no-brainer. — 10 years ago

One of my favorites: behind the Cotes du Rhône label, dominated by Syrah, hides a Cote-Rôtie-style bomb with the expected markers: Black fruits, pepper, violet, freshness, spice.

What a luck !

- A magnum Hermitage La Chapelle 1975 from Paul Jaboulet Aîné.

Bottle opened 24 hours before drink.

The wine is brown and trouble.

A big density, the bouquet offer lot of spicies, cinnamon, dried grappe, old cherry in alcool, date fruit.

The palate :

Full of spicies, deep. Again the cinnamon followed by date fruit and dried grappes, smooth and elegant, a long and fresh finish on the ground aromas like mushroom an old and luxury wood.

Not so old ! A great wine. Loved it.

Degustation autour de ce magnum de 1975. Rare. Bouteille ouverte 24h à l'avance.

Sous sa robe usée, trouble et marron, ce vin cache une ceritable fraîcheur.

Son bouquet s'ouvre sur les épices, cannelle, fruits secs, raisins secs, cerise à l’eau de vie et dattes fraîches d'Iran.

Un grand bol de fruits secs, d'épices, de dattes, beaucoup de matière et de tendresse. Un style tout en élégance.
Une longue finale sur des notes tertiaires de mousse, champignon, et de vieux cèdre.

Très beau. J'ai beaucoup aimé.
Attention, le goût de vieux vins est toujours particulier !

2020 vintage. Popped and poured. Unexpected levels of color. A bit of wool/lanolin in the high nose mixed with a youthful, Côte-Rôtie styled, spicy meat endeavor with flechettes of sulphur, cinnamon and really dark plum thrown into the mix. Buttressed by some toasty oak. Def intriguing. Tannic presence mid and finishing palates with a pleasant cache of richness front palate. Drinking nicely now but would love to stash a case or two and sample a bottle every six months or so. 7.10.24. — 2 years ago

The Jauma lineup is a rainbow spectrum of bright colored, hazy, unfiltered wines with creative labels, beer cap tops (even for still wines) and lots of internet cache’. The Shiraz based Disco Special is my favorite of the group and comes in a recycled 750ml beer bottle. It is the least juicy of the bunch and has a layered bouquet of beautiful sour red berries with high acid tones, minerals, and green herbs. Lots of zippy acidity is delivered via flavors of sour cherries and lingonberry. The texture is supple and soft and rounds out the acid. It’s true to the Natural Wine profile, where I tread with caution. But it is delicate, balanced, and free of excessive funk, juice, and crunch. — 8 years ago

Pretty impressive for a third wine, "Pauillac" is a relatively new wine for Bordeaux from Chateau Latour. From what I read 1990 may have been the first vintage.

I was not surprised of its character based on being a 2009, but based off of the 2006 and 2008 of this same wine I had low expectations. I have tasted this twice in the past and it was pretty good, but young and tight. This is young and while well structured, it's open for business and plenty enjoyable. The nose is really fragrant and persistent, within 2 feet of the glass you can smell it's charms. Red currants, black cherry, cassis, some violets floral essence that peaks as pure Cabernet. Secondary notes of toast and coffee act like a shadow to the fruit. Texturally this is great, density of flavor without weight, with firm and dusty tannin. A long finish on the palate adds good acidity and some minerality.

Will this get better? If you like your wines with some youthful exuberance this is right where you want it. But if you want to see it mature this should easily go another 10-12.

This then likely makes 2010 worth a look too.

Which brings us to price and value. It can be an odd wine for the normal price as it's not usually a good value, mostly because you can get first wines from other classified Chateau for the same or in some cases materially less.

I got this for a decent price at a big retailer sale event. Would I pay 90 as its priced now? No, absolutely not but I would take it for $60 or better.

But again we are talking cache and Latour, to me the greatest of the 1st Growth Bordeaux wines. — 10 years ago
