Domaine Tour Saint Michel

Cuvée du Lion Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

Absurd value from @wtso
Pnp let sat for an hour or so, initially very jammy but that blew off.
N: Dark red fruits verging on black, Amarena cherries, tobacco, earth, iron.
P: That sense of iron repeats, virtually no tannins, Sense of place, yes.
As another reviewer said, you could drink this down easy.
We’re still looking for complexity though.

Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes Viognier 2019

Wow..obvious Viognier character. Mouthfeel really complements the aromatics. Much better wine than I anticipated based on price (15 euro) — 4 days ago

Cuvée Tradition Gigondas Grenache 2018

2018. Popped and poured because another wine was in my decanter. We really enjoyed the 2017 this summer at a wine dinner and thought it would be great with a little age, so we ordered a bottle. Didn’t realize we ended up with a 2018 until tonight. This bottle was brighter and fresher, everything I love about Grenache! Used a splash of this wine to revive a leftover dried cherry sauce from this weekend for rack of lamb chops tonight. Made the sauce even better! — 13 days ago

Réservé Côtes du Rhône Syrah 1989

Definitely more youthful, both color wise and primary fruit wise, but not as super complex on the palate, this might need another 10-15 years (at least) to reach maturity, another amazing CdR Syrah from Jacques Reynaud!! — 13 days ago

Big, deep and boisterous nose. So much dark fruit but also olive and game and massive amounts of granitic crunch. Superb aromas. Wide open. Palate is a classic 16. So refined, so elegant and lovely granite that is very sapid on the palate. Juicy and so clean. Wonderful and drinking so well now. Still no rush. It’s amazing how good this is for so little.

Wow this got insane overnight. Meaty and granite driven nose. Gorgeous red and blackberry fruit. More red than yesterday. Stunning nose. Palate is opulent, incisive and super complex with great juiciness and length. 9.3 to 9.4 overnight. Balanced, fresh and pure.

Been a few years. Nose starts out reticent but then quickly gets olivey, gamey and full of granite and dark blackberries. Also some dark red berries. Very intense and grandiose as Hermitage should be. Nose gets more floral and mineral with air. Really pretty after 10 minutes. Palate is juicy, elegant and super pure. Wow. Shows the lushness of 15 and the finesse of Luyton and of Hermitage. 15 is such an amazing vintage and it’s aging wonderfully. Awesome fruit and freshness and a brilliant hit of opulence on the finish and mid. Wow. What a showing. Really delicate and elegant. Like top level. — 11 days ago

Monier de La Sizeranne Hermitage Syrah 2011

While I’ve been a big fan of Chapoutier’s other bottlings, this is my first experience with the Sizeranne. This is a selection of fruit from Méal, Bessards and Greffieux.

At almost 11yrs old, I wasn’t sure if this needed some time to blow off funk or not, so I consumed from bottle and opted not to decant, which I think worked well. The aromatics here totally stole the show…there was a roasted plum combo with savory tomato stew type notes that were so unique…a rollercoaster balance of dark fruit and tart/herbal flair. Palate was as expected with red and and black currant, mocha dusted black cherries, tart iron and black pepper. Really pretty highlight of iron all the way through but not to where it dominated everything. The tart fruit and tangy/savory iron play was right up my alley. This seems to be in a prime drinking window and likely hangs here the next 5-7yrs.

Ancestor grape variety of Syrah, with which it shares many common characters, from dress to shades. Pleasure cuvée around €12 at the Domaine. A variety with real potential.

Cépage ancêtre de la syrah, avec laquelle il partage beaucoup de caractères communs, de la robe aux nuances. Cuvée plaisir aux alentours de 12€ au domaine. On découvre une variété avec un vrai potentiel. A tester pour les curieux.

Classic Northern Rhone. Ripe Black currant, smoked meat and allspice. Medium weight, and grippy tannins with plenty of acidity on the finish. — 3 days ago
