Like a nice crisp Pinot Grigio — 18 days ago
Tonight it was time to open my 2007 Domaine Huet Le Mont Demi-Sec Vouvray.
On the nose there is peach, apricot, persimmon, baked apple, lime, honeydew melon, jasmine and brioche.
On the palate we have wonderful notes of peach, honeysuckle, honeycomb, ripe yellow apple, lime, ginger and minerals.
This wine is medium bodied with a viscous mouthcoating mouthfeel and with this age still has mouthwatering medium + acidity that moves smoothly into a medium+ to long peach lemon mineral finish. What a treat. I thought this may be past its prime but no it is still wonderful. Just goes to show you the Loire Chenin Blanc age gracefully. Happy hump day and enjoy the end of the week. Stay safe and continued health. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 8 days ago
Love this! Medium gold; medium plus intensity aromas of golden apple, yellow plum, apricot, mineral, earth, biscuit, cream; dry, medium plus acid, medium alcohol, full bodied, pronounced intensity flavors consistent with aromas; long finish, a stunning, complex wine; flavors fresh and clean; brought this back from Swartland in 2019, and only now just go to it — 4 days ago
Prior notes still mostly apply, decanted +3H. Lighter acidity (👍) and a touch more neutral-ish oak notes, showing beautiful tonight!
Nose has green apple slice, under-ripe pear, garden fresh string beans, cold butter and fresh green apple peel.
Palate has baked green apple with sprinkle of sugar, lemon pith, river stones, lemon zest with medium acidity and a long finish.
On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, without orchestra or conductor 😉. Three humble souls playing an all BEETHOVEN program (Piano Trio No. 3 in C minor (Opus 1, No. 3) and Symphony No. 2 in D (Opus 36, arr. for piano trio by Beethoven)) with a few of the best players of instruments containing strings, Yo-Yo Ma (cello), Leonidas Kavakos (violin) and Emanuel Ax (piano). A true delight for lovers of Classical music this evening! — 6 days ago
A charming spicy chenin from Paarl, South Africa. Yellow-greenish color and heavy on the swirl; the nose is like smelling and tasting a clear mountain brook followed by pineapple, peaches, anise, and a bouqet of flowers; the taste is rich and spicy, the fruit and spicy herbaceousness is lined up nicely and the finish is long. Yes, I was gobsmacked by surprise at how great this wine tasted. 13.5% and 20 usd. — 3 days ago
(this is actually the Maison Mason Vineyard wine). Has to be one of the best whites made in Paso. Bright aromatics, great depth, with persistent acidity on the palate to keep it moving. Just a terrific wine from Ryan and Nicole at Paix sur Terre, one of the most underrated wineries in all of Paso. — 19 hours ago
What a nice way to put behind that shitty beer as my last Canadian anything here. — 24 days ago
Aromas of pear and nectarines, grillé, roasted almonds, hay, hints of honey and beeswax
On the palate is a bit warm, but quite complex, perhaps not extremely fresh
Almondy and mineral after taste that again finishes a bit warm
In good shape, but it definitely looks like it comes from a hot vintage
At peak..perhaps i would have enjoyed it better few years ago too — a day ago
Tonight's wine is the 2016 Spottswoode Mary's Block Sauvignon Blanc.
On the nose there are very distinct notes of grapefruit, peach, lime, melon, herbaceous notes and minerals.
On the palate there are lovely notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lime, white peach, grassy notes, herbaceousness and minerals.
This wine is medium bodied with a crisp and clean mouthfeel, medium + to high acidity that move very well into a long citrus and mineral finish. What a beautiful Sauvignon Blanc this is and it has at least another 5 years or more left in store. Please have a wonderful week ahead, stay safe and healthy and it will be the weekend again before you know it. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 10 days ago
Star bright straw gold. Abundant funky nose of burning citrus and funghi. Medium palate is much cleaner than the nose yielding toasted lemon, white guava, and white pepper with a bit of birch on the finish. Medium plus acidity. Medium finish. A fine example of California Fumé style SB. Okay as a sipper, but built for a meal. Swordfish and scallops come racing to mind, but any white fleshed fish or shellfish should pair wonderfully. Or just upscale your fried chicken. It’s good for that, too. Drink now through 2024. — 10 days ago
