Masseto

Toscana Merlot 2015

On to the reds. My first time with a full bottle , previously only had “pours”. I am judging this wine for what it is vs what I prefer to drink. Clearly a new world wine but not a fruit bomb . Wonderful concentration of fruit on the nose and palate . Of course oak is there but it is handled perfectly. Alcohol is shy. A beautiful satisfying wine that is so easy to drink with our steaks. I would love to taste this with another 10 years in the bottle. — 12 days ago

Giacomo Conterno

Cascina Francia Barolo Nebbiolo 2005

I am a complete fan for this wine and producer. I have enjoyed different vintages and it has been a very consistent joy. This one is no different. Despite a crumbly cork.. the wine was a survivor! Rich perfume from the start. It’s special and it’s deep. Love the classic Barolo color. Purple at center brightening from there to orange at the rim. It’s still clear when you swirl to look through it and it has excellent lines. This wine has weight and heft. It lingers on the palate and covers with depth and an array of flavors and feels. My most obvious assessor applies to this wine. I can always tell what I like best by how fast it goes. This went down lightning fast. It opened well and because the cork was garbage it required a decant which I likely would have done anyway… Seventeen years in I would say this one has matured to its near peak. Fantastic bottle of wine. — 2 days ago

Montevertine

Le Pergole Torte Sangiovese 2015

It is glorious Pergole Torte. Full fermentation in cement after which it receives 18 months in barrique. Multiple layers of dark fruit and cherries. You can almost bite the wine. Smooth but yet with a lot of grip. bravo. — 16 days ago

Castello di Monsanto

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2015

Ming L
9.1

Darker fruit profile on the nose than previous vintages with blackberry, black currant, strawberry, dry tree bark, and sage. Taste young and fresh with lovely snappy red cherry. Quite powerful tannins for a Chianti Classical.

Riserva Cannonau di Sardegna 2019

Another solid vintage of this Sardinian Grenache based wine. Bright ruby color. Beautiful aromas of violets, crushed gravel and dark fruit. The pallet is also full of ripe dark fruit and wild herbs with a hint of Chinese five spice on the finish. Oak is in the background. Well structured, bright acidity and nicely balanced. — 13 days ago

After starting with the Russian River Pinot the “old world” style was very apparent. Nice leather & berry flavors. — 6 days ago

Cantina Bartolo Mascarello

Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

Tawny in colour and surprisingly transparent in parts. Menthol, dusty cherries, roses and a note of orange rind. With air in the decanter this medium bodied wine developed more weight on the delicious palate. Fine powdery tannins which you can smell and taste. Just a gorgeous nose which needed air. One of the 1001 wines and considered to be the embodiment of traditional Barolo. — 20 days ago
