Jun 15th, 2020The 2016 Felsina Rancia is all class. Rich, red fruit, tension and fairly austere tannins. Not as giving as it might be. Glad I used Coravin on this one. I'll check in on it in a while!

Silky/velvety, rich Sangiovese w/ less oak than most vintages of this cuvée. Pure raspberry fruit & some dark chocolate. A very well balanced Chianti with many layers. Needs at least one hour to open up. Tasted on 1/1/20

Translucent ruby. So compact, taut and powerful. Electric. Subtle floral perfume with red fruit, tobacco, leather and black fruit. Lots of stuffing on the palate, but the nose is pretty closed. Wouldn’t touch this for five years.

The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is powerful, rich and explosive, with tremendous drive. Even so, several bottles have been quite closed. That is probably a very good sign for the long-term, but readers should not plan on touching a bottle anytime soon. A wine of vertical drive and aromatic nuance, the 2016 Rancia is super-complexed. Only with a few hours of air does it show the nuances and layers that were so evident from barrel. The 2016 is a painfully stubborn wine in the early going, but it will offer superb drinking pleasure for those who can wait. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2019)

375 and took three to four hours to open. Beautiful juice with red cherry, licorice, and herbs. Perfect with a ribeye. Will get better with time.

Consumed over 3 days. Nose of strawberry. Dark garnet in color. By day three the initial tight, dense palate has added sour cherry, plum currents and a deep array of leather, tobacco, loam, coffee endingwith thyme and violets. This earthy wine needs 3-5 more years or a long decant. Typical Sangiovese/CCR at a very high level.

The perfect pairing for homemade ricotta ravioli and a simple red sauce... Tight acidity that keeps pace with the fresh tomatoes. Room to develop for sure but it relaxed pretty quickly 1-2 hours after opening
