It was big but not as complex as earlier vintages. It has some more growth to come but tasting good early on. — 20 days ago
This wine is medium dark red in the glass and has a nose of strawberry and cherry, with an earthy element added to it -sort of a Beaujolais feel. The palate offers up brilliant cherry notes and a racy acidity, along with rather firm tannins. The oak treatment - only five months neutral - make this a great choice for backyard cookouts this summer. Don't be afraid to ice down this unusual grape. Valdiguié is almost extinct, I'm told. It was once called Napa Gamay. — 3 days ago
Small winery, managed by Doug Shafer. Blend of 90% Cab Sauv, 7% Merlot & 3% Malbec, aged, 20 months, 100% new French oak. Beautiful fruit & floral aromas, hints of savory spice. On the palate cherry & raspberry flavors with oak structure adding pepper, licorice & cacao. Firm tannins, approachable now, long ending with fruit & mineral edge. Had this about 2+ years ago, nice now but more cellaring will only benefit this beauty, if you can resist the temptation. Very Nice! — 16 days ago
Great Cab Sav! Subtle, brilliant balance of ripe red fruit that finishes well - perfect for an evening out and red meat meal! — a month ago
Cain Five and Waygu strip steak(from Snake River Farms) zoom tasting with Chris Howell(owner of Cain) and Chef Hiro Sone (owner/chef of the former Terra in St. Helena). 2008 vintage and 2013 vintage.
Prior notes apply for the 2008 vintage.
2013 vintage: 1 hour decant (some cloudy sediment). A dark garnet color with a little bricking. On the nose: certain vintages of Cain embrace the Brett on the property, and this is one of em. Some funky barnyard (luv it), plum, pine, tobacco, smoked meat, forest floor, orange peel. Taste: smooth medium plus body wine with plum, pine, currant, coffee, and a bitter chocolate dry medium plus finish. Some tannins still kicking wanting a few more years in the bottle. — a month ago
