St. Péray, Northern Rhône

Domaine du Tunnel (Stéphane Robert)

Cuvée Prestige St. Péray White Rhône Blend 2020

Lyle Fass

Outrageous nose on this white cornas. Lemon gelato, light framing oak, insane granite minerality, so floral and fragrant. Broad, caressing and complex. Just piercing minerality. Palate is ripe, rich with lots of gras but so fresh and nimble while also expressing a wonderful fruit intensity (pineapple, guava, mango) and a controlled richness The minerality really brings out the freshness here. Long, pure and stunning. St. Peray is a great appellation currently.

Lovely vanilla extract with some air. Honeysuckle as well. Almost tannic from the minerality on the finish. What elegance. An unreal wine.

2017 N Rhones are having a moment. My goodness this is wonderful. Olives, blackberry, red berries, so vivid and pure. Gaminess. So deep and pure. Nimble. Long. Granitic. No formal notes. — 15 days ago

Cuvée Isaline Saint Joseph blanc Marsanne Roussanne 2019

Straight up jasmine perfume. Complex herbal bouquet, juniper and rosemary along with cracker jacks and buttercream icing. Brilliant, deliciously subtle edge of mineral and spice. The @Lyle Fass northern rhone blanc portfolio is stunning and eye opening. This has insane drinkability. Pushing 9.6.

@Delectable Wine this is the Isaline blanc.

thanks Josh. it’s my pet project, more of a vanity project as more people prefer riesling and chardonnay but I love the stuff and will keep bringing it in.

Saint-Joseph Digue Roussanne 2017

100% Roussanne. Purchased at winery. Golden with green undertones. Sublime after opening in the glass. Roasted walnuts, cheese rind, yellow flower, hazelnut, dried peaches, orange potpourri, and a touch of lemon rind. Mouthfeel is round and spicy. Layers of reduced citrus, peach, dried flowers, and Asian spice. Creamy and nutty on the finish with length. Pair with a sitting on the porch in Summer or a Thanksgiving Day meal. — 13 days ago

Vieilles Vignes St. Joseph Syrah 2019

As authentic as it gets. Older than old school. Nose is iodine, granite, blackberries, and it’s all wrapped in a bow. It is so refined. Wow. This is a stunning young bottle of this. Always a 9.5 as you can see by previous notes but this is just beyond. Meaty. I mean like sick insane vivid meats. Smoked and cured. 9.8 nose. Holy shit. That palate is elegant as all can be but has serious structure and tannins but all wrapped in granite and blackberry fruit. What a finish. This is as good a St. Joseph as I’ve had in months. Wow the concentration. So granitic and mineral. Young. But incredible. 9.5 for now. — 3 days ago

Terres d'Encre Saint-Joseph Syrah 2018

Racy acidity jumps out with fruit-forward dark red fruits surprisingly drinking very well for its youth. Dense earth/clay, supple spices and tannins. Gorgeous wine, great with lamb shanks. — 22 days ago
