St. Péray, Northern Rhône

Domaine du Tunnel (Stéphane Robert)

Cuvée Prestige St. Péray White Rhône Blend 2018

Nose is tropical flowers. Gorgeous.

Palate is a bit recalcitrant at this point. Balanced and elegant. Perfect hint of honey. Very mineral. Great acidity. Mouthfeel gives you density but not the flavor as much.

I’d give this a couple of years for optimal drinking. It’s very good now but will be better.

Bought from fass selections.

Saint-Joseph Sortilege 2018

Lovely st Joseph. Decanted 3 hours, in a pretty good place actually. So nice and deep briny dark fruits with good acid and a quite complete finish. Delicious. Excellent with skirt steaks off the grill. — 18 days ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2012

Shockingly open from the first pour. Would have thought it would need a great deal of time in the decanter before it unfurled but this was showing beautiful right away. Super expressive nose of violets, black olive, red fruit, iron and crushed stones. The palate is deep and concentrated with lovely texture that’s complimented with fresh acidity. Finishes long, lifted and balanced. This was fantastic with the beet course as they had a matching ‘meatiness’ to them. Love these wines. — 23 days ago

Vieilles Vignes St. Joseph Marsanne Roussanne Blend 2019

All I can say is wow! I opened this bottle with zero expectations, took a sip and just started laughing because of how delicious it was. Nose is so quirky and expressive as soon as you pour a glass. Peaches, kiwi, welches white grape juice, golden raisins, butterscotch, pineapple, mango, tropical bubblegum... “confectionary psychedelia” are the words that came to mind. A subtle sweetness teases the mid-palate but then resolves to a tart and mineral finish. Which is awesome and opposite the honeyed, cloying finish I’ve come to fear in some Rhone whites. I’d say with this bottle I’m well on my way to being a convert.

Can’t for the life of me explain the richness and elegance at this price point. Genius stuff

Woot woot! This is why I sell White Rhone. Because one convert is worth it. And what a stupid value that wine is!! Great note. Might repost on IG!

Saint-Joseph White Rhone Blend 2015

Quite a rich lemon in colour. Overall the aromatics are more delicate for the sometimes unctuous varieties of Marsanne and Roussanne. Lovely aromatics of pear, honeysuckle and white flowers. The following night the palate was a little more luscious with notes of quince with low acid. A lovely wine. — 22 days ago

Poivre et Sol St. Joseph Syrah 2015

2015 vintage. The usual suspects in the nose with some violets and lavender in the follow-through. Plenty of white and black pepper in the lineup. Medium-bodied. A prettier Saint-Joseph. — 3 days ago

Beautiful lighter bodied st Joseph. Drink soon though, it’s the freshness that makes it the wine it is. — 9 days ago
