Vieilles Vignes Saint Joseph Syrah

There are two kinds of st Joseph. This is one of the good ones. Long finish. Complex. Quite serious.

Big blackberry and plum juice nose, beautiful pastry notes of berry tart, smoke, sweetness and funk. Grape juice and granite. A touch of black pepper spice and amazing mineral density. Burly but clean and satisfying. Some bitterness on the finish that should resolve with time, otherwise drinking really nicely.

Punches above its already massive weight. Meaty. Purple-y, plummy stone fruit overtones. Wonderful.

This was showing well that was all about dark fruits, meat, spice, olive, pepper & violet.

Still great but not quite as magical as I remember

2018 vintage. Last bottle of three and the best of the batch. Pity it’s gone. Great balance, fruit, structure and sense of wonder. Dense and world-destroying where necessary, lithe and playful filling in the rest.

Great producer of SJ & a good QPR showing juicy black fruits, mineral, olive, pepper, savory spices & violet.

2018 vintage. Violets and white/black pepper. That is all. Yum.

2018 vintage. Huge black and white pepper components with plenty of body to back them up. Lip-smacking if you like that kind of thing.
