Aux Thorey Nuits Saint Georges Pinot Noir 2020

Lyle Fass
9.9

Just a phenomenal nose. Wow. Perfect, and so deep. 4D cherries. Black, red, perfect cherries. So deep. Endless cherries. High toned and dark at the same time. Totally amazing. Wow. This is genius. Haunting earth and stoniness. This nose is a 10.0. Just insane. Totally mindblowing. The detail and depth is unreal. Best nose of the 2020 Brissets. The nose smells like GC Vosne-Romanee. Such a special site. Juicy and so dense but bright as well. So sweet and fresh. This just has a tiny berry juicy explosiveness. Sappy and pure and such lift. Finishes so mineral. Wow that opulence in the midpalate leads to unreal juicy fruit on the finish that is so bright, energetic and lifted. Stunning length. The detailed black and red cherry fruit that is blended with the perfect level of opulence. Longest of all the 2020 Brisset reds. Wow. A profound wine of total genius. I am floored. The tannins are so fine, so well knit. so velvet. This will be a 10.0 with age. — 6 hours ago

Blind tasting lunch 2009 theme. Nose and palate with gorgeous spices, nice balance, delicious and pure flavors with grippy tannins in this long but slightly rustic finish, very terroir like.

Les Tuyaux Nuits Saint Georges Pinot Noir 2019

This was volatile and unpleasant on opening, but changed dramatically and really opened up with an hour in a decanter. Blackberry and black cherry, warm earth, mineral, ripe but beautifully balanced, silky tannin 😋 — 5 days ago

Les Saint-Georges Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Ruby with aromas of red and black fruits and complex spice. On the palate, flavors of layered fruit, ripe black cherry and raspberry with cedar, tobacco, herbs and nutty notes. Full soft tannins, balanced juicy acidity, long ending with fruit and earthy character. Outstanding! Wait on this a bit! — 12 days ago

Vieilles Vignes Côte de Nuits-Villages Pinot Noir 2019

This was delicious, and a winning blind for me. Having a baseline on the table definitely helped. Although less sweet and intense, I felt the JM Millot was in the same genre as the Métras, with similar texture, floral lift, minerality, and red fruit profile. It was the difference in fruit sweetness that gave it away as being from greater Burgundy, whereby Pinot Noir usually appears less sweet than Gamay to me. The village was definitely a lot harder to identify which made sense upon the reveal - when in doubt, it’s probably from one of the lesser communes (or Morey lol!). Fine, fresh, and energetic, I would have drank a lot more of it if not for the other wines on the table. Another to revisit. — 6 days ago
