Nuits St. Georges, Côte De Nuits

Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier

Clos de la Maréchale Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2009

Medium deep ruby , garnet . Quite rich and deep fruits , with some dusty herbal elements . On the palate also quiet ripe and rich , sweetly fruited . Dark cherry , with some summer fruits , blackberry . Good balance however , with sweet tannin and balanced acidity . Still showing lots of fruit , but drinking now but can can last well , probably improve over the next 5 years or so . — 15 days ago

Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2002

Great lineup tonight of 02’s where the Coche showed much younger than its age, the Musigny was elegant, finessed open & expressive just entering its prime drinking window. The Beze was muscular, tight& needed air to show its dark fruit, spice, earth, mineral & violet — 4 days ago

Showing more power upfront than the Rousseau that continued to develop through out the night with lots of dark fruits & spice — 6 days ago

Chambolle-Musigny Pinot Noir 2022

Pnp beauty, completely open and giving wafting a distinctive Roumier raspberry and rose petal laced whole cluster perfume with a seductive and seamless palate with fine grained tannins and a long mineral inflicted finish. So much more accessible than 21’s right now which are far more closed and reductive. Last glass a couple hours open was just perfect Burgundy. Village at its finest. — 24 days ago

Drinking great with its red & dark fruit, Asian spice, orange peel & floral notes. So good now that will continue to develop for many years — 6 days ago

Échézeaux Pinot Noir 2005

Broke out a big gun for the holiday. Succulent on the first taste from the bottle. Decanted and drank over 2+ hours. Almost no sediment. Striking color. Very deep red. Tons of mature fruit but still lively. Deep and long. Rounded mouthfeel and lingers wonderfully. It’s such a smooth but heady wine. Nicely fragrant. My first DRC. — 3 days ago

My continued quest to try as many 2022 Burgundies as possible.

So, after my first sip, I stopped & went to grab one of these and got the last floor bottle. This is my red burgundy wheelhouse.

The nose is somewhat subtle at this stage. But is dark, somewhat big and definitely brooding. Slightly candied darker fruits with beautiful dark, fresh & withering florals framed in violets.

The palate shows beautiful, near perfect ripe fruits of; dark cherries, plum, poached strawberries with hues of purple & blue. There are fairly pronounced tannin profiles in all this wines in this tasting. This shows more than the others. The body/mouthfeel is excellent. Dry top soils, dry, crushed rock power, dry herbs, red cola, both licorices, soft, dark spices, light baking spices, used tobacco, dry leather, a bit of lightly grilled meats, dry river stone, dry brush, bright red & dark florals framed in violets, excellent acidity and a excellent finish that is well; structured, balanced with elegance and last two-minutes.

10 plus years of cellaring will yield another two points.
