Calera Wine Company

de Villiers Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010

Legendary Loss

Calera founder Josh Jensen passed away earlier this month after a lifetime of achievements that included elevating American Pinot Noir on the world stage

Day 1
Served this with the Vinloq System
👃Bold, sexy, purple fruit floods from the glass endlessly
👅Spicy purple fruit, blood orange, sasafras, and licorice. A gentle tannic pull on the smoke tinged finish. Drinking well

Remaining wine was Slow Decanted in my refrigerator

DAY 10
👃Sweet, spicy, purple fruits with more vanilla, oak, vegetal, and tobacco notes than Day 1
👅Same sweet plummy fruit with tobacco and licorice. Fruit forward but balanced. Soft tannins and no heat

I did not have a preference for Day 1 or Day 10. There were more oak notes on both the nose and palate on Day 10. Two solid showings👍This is solidly in its drinking window & will be there for quite some time 🍷

Estate Bottled Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay 2016

Absolutely an amazing wine! Thank you @Ron R for recommending this! I am experiencing so many elements at the same time. Reminisce of an aged Chenin Blanc where you get creaminess almost wax cheese rind and honey. Picking up an almond sticky bun. Not really acidity but unique freshness of lemon, peaches & yellow apples. Golden hay in color, Med+ body w/ nice long finish. Drinking this w/ a nice chill presents some nice acidity.
Hard not to make a comparison (sigh) to something I paid a lot more for and enjoyed...not so much! Love the balance and 13.5 alc.

@Dawn E. So happy you enjoyed this as much as I did. Hanzell Sebella at $22 per is just as strong. Get some!

The Hess Collection

The Lion Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot, deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits with spice, herb and earthy notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry, ripe cherry, fig and blueberry with currants, cacao, pepper and tobacco notes. Fine grainy tannins, good structure, long finish, great mouthfeel, ending with cedar, fruit and tobacco spice notes. Wonderful! Very Nice. Needs cellaring. — 14 days ago

Sentinel Cabernet Sauvignon is named for the shield-shaped block that casts a watchful eye on the entrance to Monte Rosso Vineyard. Deep Ruby with aromas of rich dark fruit, cedar and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry, blackberry and currants with vanilla oak and toasty nutty notes. Fine soft tannins, well balanced with acidity, long finish ending with berry fruit, cacao and toasty vanilla oak. Nice! — 12 days ago

Really enjoyed this Riesling. Not too sweet with nice layers that are just not simply fruity. — 12 days ago

Selleck Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

2017 vintage. Banging, full nose. Light-medium body. Smooth as usual until the open 2+ hours mark where it (pleasantly) started to pick up more acidity/tannins and some earthier notes. — a month ago
